SOLARI, LUIGI MARIA. - Servant of God, b. at Chiavari into an illustrious family, 13 May 1795, d. at Benevento, 17 Aug. 1829.
He studied at Savona in the College of the Lazarists, then at the University of Genoa. In 1814 he decided to enter the restored Society of Jesus; but he was opposed by his mother, a widow with no other sons. After three years, already a deacon, he fled from his paternal home and entered the Jesuit novitiate at the church of S. Ambrogio in Genoa (1817). He taught at Turin, then at Rome (1820) and Naples (1821), where he continued to distinguish himself by angelic piety and virtue, following the example of s. Luigi Gonzaga, whose name he wished to take in exchange for his own, Agostino. Ordained priest (1824), he died prematurely at Benevento, after a few years of intense and fruitful apostolate, especially promoting devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. His cause of beatification was signed by Pius X in 1906.
