SOLARI, LUIGI MARIA. - Servant of God, b. at Chiavari of an illustrious family, on 13 May 1795, d. at Benevento on 17 Aug. 1829.

He studied at Savona in the College of the Lazarists, then at the University of Genoa. In 1814 he decided to enter the restored Society of Jesus; but he was hindered by his mother, a widow and without other sons. After three years, already a deacon, he fled from his father's house and entered the novitiate of the Jesuits, at the church of S. Ambrogio in Genoa (1817). He taught at Turin, then at Rome (1820) and at Naples (1821), where he continued to distinguish himself by angelic piety and virtue after the examples of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, whose name he wished to take, exchanging it for his own of Agostino. Ordained a priest (1824), he died prematurely at Benevento, after a few years of intense and fruitful apostolate, spreading especially devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. His cause of beatification was signed by Pius X in 1906.
