ANDREUCCI, ANDREA GIROLAMO. – Theologian. Born in Viterbo on 13 November 1684, died in Rome on 13 June 1771. He taught philosophy at Perugia and moral theology at Città di Castello and at the seminary of Frascati. He later moved to Pavia and then to Rome, where he remained until his death.
He wrote, sometimes anonymously, various pamphlets and dissertations on theology, especially sacramental theology, canon law, liturgy, and hagiography (the list is provided by Sommervogel), among which deserves mention the Ragagiglio della Vita della Serva di Dio Rosa Venerini… (Rome 1732). Since the works written after 1666 remain isolated, the others were collected by A. himself into two volumes: 1) Dissertationes variae canonico-theologicae (Rome 1746); 2) Hierarchia ecclesiastica in varias suas partes distributa et canonico-theologice expositae (Rome 1766).
He also distinguished himself by his priestly zeal among the clergy, especially by directing the Congregation of Priests at “Gesù” in Rome, and on this subject he wrote three volumes that met with great favor and were soon widely circulated: Introduzione al Chiericato (Rome 1724); Memoriale confessariorum (Rome 1725); and De cultu et veneratione Sanctissimo Eucharistiae sacramento exhibenda (Perugia 1727). In polemicizing over the treatment to be accorded in confession to relapsed penitents, in the work Confessarius recidivi (Rome 1754) he effectively impugned the rigid opinion of the Dominican Daniele Concina.
