ANDREUCCI, ANDREA GIROLAMO. - Jesuit theologian, born at Viterbo on 13 Nov. 1684, died at Rome on 13 June 1771. He taught philosophy at Perugia and moral theology at Città di Castello and at the seminary of Frascati. He subsequently went to Pavia, then to Rome, where he remained until his death.
He wrote, sometimes anonymously, various pamphlets and dissertations on theology, especially sacramental theology, canon law, liturgy, and hagiography (the list is given by Sommervogel), among which mention should be made of the Raggnaglio della Vita della Serca di Dio Rosa Venerini... (Rome 1732). Since the works written after 1766 remained separate, the others were collected by A. himself in two collections: 1) Dissertaciones varias canonico-theologicas (Rome 1746); 2) Hierarchia ecclesiastica in varias suas partes distribuita et canonico-theologice exposita (Rome 1766).
He also distinguished himself by his priestly zeal among the clergy, especially through directing at the «Gesù» in Rome the Congregazione dei Sacerdoti, and on this subject he wrote three volumes which met with great favor and were soon widely disseminated: Introduzione al Chiericato (Rome 1724); Memoriale confessariorum (Rome 1725); and De cultu et veneratione Sanctissimo Eucharistiae sacramento exhibenda (Perugia 1727). In controversy over the treatment to be employed in confession with relapsing penitents, in the work Confessarius recidivi (Rome 1754), he effectively challenged the strict opinion of the Dominican Daniele Concina.
