Andreucci, Andrea Girolamo

ANDREUCCI, ANDREA GIROLAMO. - Jesuit theologian, b. at Viterbo on 13 Nov. 1684, d. at Rome on 13 June 1771. He taught philosophy at Perugia and moral theology at Città di Castello and at the seminary of Frascati. He then moved to Pavia, and afterwards to Rome, where he remained until his death.

He wrote, sometimes anonymously, various opuscules and dissertations on theology, especially on the sacraments, on canon law, on liturgy and on hagiography (the list is given by Sommervogel), among which the Raggnaglio della Vita della Serca di Dio Rosa Venerini... (Rome 1732) deserves to be noted. Since the works written after 1766 remained isolated, the others were collected by A. himself into two collections: 1) Dissertaciones varias canonico-theologicas (Rome 1746); 2) Hierarchia ecclesiastica in varias suas partes distribuita et canonico-theologice exposita (Rome 1766).

He was also distinguished for his priestly zeal among the clergy, especially in directing at the "Gesù" in Rome the Congregazione dei Sacerdoti, and on this subject he wrote three volumes that met with much favor and were in a short time widely circulated: Introduzione al Chiericato (Rome 1724); Memoriale confessariorum (Rome 1725) and De cultu et veneratione Sanctissimo Eucharistiae sacramento exhibenda (Perugia 1727). Polemicizing on the treatment to be used in confession toward relapsed penitents, in the work Confessarius recidivi (Rome 1754), he effectively attacked the rigid opinion of the Dominican Daniele Concina.
