CARIOTH (Hebrew Qerijjoth). — 1) A city in the tribe of Judah on the border of Edom, probably Hirtbet el-Qarjatejn, 20 km. south of Hebron. But the text (Jos. 15, 25) is uncertain: the Septuagint reads Qerioth-Hesron, i.e., Asor. Perhaps it is the home of Judas "Iscariot." — 2) A city in the territory of Moab (Am. 2, 2; Jer. 48, 24), perhaps identical with the present-day Qarjat Falhah, 6 km. northeast of Dibān, or with Hirtbet el-Qurejjat, 6 km. northwest of Dibān.
