1And Abia slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead: in his days the land was quiet ten years.E Abia si addormentò co' padri suoi, e lo seppellirono nella città di David: e gli succedette nel regno Asa suo figliuolo, a tempo del quale il paese fu in pace per dieci anni.AND Abias slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the Citie of Dauid: and Asa his sonne reigned for him, in whose daies the land was quiet tenne yeares. 2And Asa did that which was good and pleasing in the sight of his God, and he destroyed the altars of foreign worship, and the high places. And Asa did that which was good and pleasing in the sight of his God, and he ouerthrew the altars of strange seruice, and the excelses,Fecit autem Asa quod bonum et placitum erat in conspectu Dei sui, et subvertit altaria peregrini cultus, et excelsa. 3And broke the statues, and cut down the groves.E fece in pezzi le statue, e abbattè i boschetti:and brake the statues, and cut downe the groues.Et confregit statuas, lucosque succidit: 4And he commanded Juda to seek the Lord the God of their fathers, and to do the law, and all the commandments.E comandò a Giuda, che cercassero il Signore Dio de' padri loro, e osservassero la legge, e tutti quanti i comandamenti:And he commanded Iuda that they should seeke our Lord the God of their fathers, and should doe the law, and al the commandementes.et præcepit Judæ ut quæreret Dominum Deum patrum suorum, et faceret legem, et universa mandata: 5And he took away out of all the cities of Juda the altars, and temples, and reigned in peace.E da tutte le città di Giuda tolse via gli altari, e i templi, e regnò in pace. And he tooke away out of al the cities of Iuda the altars, and temples, & reigned in peace.et abstulit de cunctis urbibus Juda aras et fana, et regnavit in pace. 6He built also strong cities in Juda, for he was quiet, and there had no wars risen in his time, the Lord giving peace.E ristaurò le città forti di Giuda, perchè egli avea quiete, e non fu mossa veruna guerra a suo tempo, concedendo il Signore la pace.He built also fensed cities in Iuda, because he was quiet, and there had no battels risen in his time, our Lord geuing peace.Ædificavit quoque urbes munitas in Juda, quia quietus erat, et nulla temporibus ejus bella surrexerant, pacem Domino largiente.

7And he said to Juda: Let us build these cities, and compass them with walls, and fortify them with towers, and gates, and bars, while all is quiet from wars, because we have sought the Lord the God of our fathers, and he hath given us peace round about. So they built, and there was no hinderance in building. And he sayd to Iuda: Let vs build these cities, and compasse them with walles, and strengthen them with towers, and gates, and lockes, whiles thinges are quiet from battels, because we haue sought out Lord the God of our fathers, and he hath geuen vs peace round about. They therfore did build, and there was no impediment in building. 8And Asa had in his army of men that bore shields and spears of Juda three hundred thousand, and of Benjamin that bore shields and drew bows, two hundred and eighty thousand, all these were most valiant men. And Asa had in his armie of them that caried shieldes and speares, of Iuda three hundred thousand: and of Beniamin shieldbearers and archers, two hundred eightie thousand, al these were most valiant men. 9And Zara the Ethiopian came out against them with his army of ten hundred thousand men, and with three hundred chariots: and he came as far as Maresa.E si mosse contro di loro Zara re di Etiopia col suo esercito di un milione d'uomini, e trecento cocchi: e si avanzò fino a Maresa:And Zara the Ethiopian with his armie islued forth agaynst them, tenne hundred thousand, and with three hundred chariotes: and he came as far as Maresa. 10And Asa went out to meet him, and set his army in array for battle in the vale of Sephata, which is near Maresa:E Asa gli andò incontro, e mise l'esercito in ordine di battaglia nella valle di Sephata, che è presso a Maresa:Moreouer Asa went on to meete him, and set his armie in aray to battel in the vale Sephata, which is neere Maresa.

11And he called upon the Lord God, and said: Lord, there is no difference with thee, whether thou help with few, or with many: help us, O Lord our God: for with confidence in thee, and in thy name we are come against this multitude. O Lord thou art our God, let not man prevail against thee.E invocò il Signore Dio, e disse: Signore, non havvi divario alcuno per te tral dar soccorso col piccol numero, e 'l darlo col numero grande: aiutaci, o Signore Dio nostro: perocché in te, e nel nome tuo avendo fidanza ci siamo mossi contro questa gran turba. Signore, nostro Dio se' tu; non la vinca un uomo appetto a teAnd he inuocated our Lord God, and sayd: Lord there is no difference with thee, whether thou helpe in few, or in manie: helpe vs ô Lord our God: for hauing confidence in thee, and in thy name we are come agaynst this multitude. Lord, thou art our God, let not man preuaile agaynst thee.et invocavit Dominum Deum, et ait: Domine, non est apud te ulla distantia, utrum in paucis auxilieris, an in pluribus. Adjuva nos, Domine Deus noster: in te enim, et in tuo nomine habentes fiduciam, venimus contra hanc multitudinem. 12And the Lord terrified the Ethiopians before Asa and Juda: and the Ethiopians fled. Our Lord therfore terrified the Aethiopians before Asa and Iuda: and the Aethiopians fled.Exterruit itaque Dominus Æthiopes coram Asa et Juda: fugeruntque Æthiopes. 13And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them to Gerara: and the Ethiopians fell even to utter destruction, for the Lord slew them, and his army fought against them, and they were destroyed. And they took abundance of spoils,E Asa, e le sue genti gl'inseguirono sino a Gerara: e gli Etiopi furon messi in rotta, e sterminati, perchè dal Signore, che li percoteva, furon disfatti, e dall'esercito di lui, che pugnava. Fu adunque fatto un gran bottino. And Asa pursewed them, and the people that was with him, vnto Gerara: and the Aethiopians fel to vtter destruction, because our Lord killing them, and his armie fighting they were destroyed. Tulerunt ergo spolia multa, 14And they took all the cities round about Gerara: for a great fear was come upon all men: and they pillaged the cities, and carried off much booty.E furono prese per forza tutte le città intorno a Gerara: perocché era entrato in tutti grande sbigottimento: e le città furono saccheggiate, e ne riportarono molta preda.and they stroke al the cities round about Gerara: for great terrour had inuaded al men: and they spoyled the cities, and caried away much praye.et percusserunt civitates omnes per circuitum Geraræ: grandis quippe cunctos terror invaserat: et diripuerunt urbes, et multam prædam asportaverunt.

15And they destroyed the sheepcotes, and took an infinite number of cattle, and of camels: and returned to Jerusalem.E distrutte eziandio le capanne delle pecore, menaron via un infinito numero di bestiame minuto, e di cammelli. E se ne tornarono a Gerusalemme.Yea and destroying the sheepecotes of sheepe, they tooke an infinite multitude of cattel, and of camels: and returned into Ierusalem.
