CORNACCHINI, AGOSTINO. - Sculptor, b. at Pescia in 1685 and d. at Rome shortly after 1740. A pupil of G. B. Foggini, he embraced the Baroque in its pictorial and somewhat academic aspect, always preserving, like other Tuscan sculptors, a wholly formal and external vision of things: he is one of the representatives of the Marattism of sculpture.
He executed a statue of Clement XI for the cathedral of Urbino, in St. Peter's in the Vatican the Charlemagne, the holy-water stoups (1725) and the statue of St. Elijah (1727), in the cathedral of Orvieto a Nativity of Mary and the Archangels Michael and Gabriel (1729), a Nativity of Mary and a Deposition at Superga, the statue of Charity in the Corsini chapel at the Lateran, a statue of Clement XII for Ancona and finally, among his later works, the busts of the cardinals D'Adda and Omodei in the sacristy of the church of S. Carlo al Corso in Rome.

Guglielmo Matthiae CORNA DI CONSACRAZIONE. - In sanctuaries, dwellings, votive deposits of the Minoan age in Crete there were found objects formed by two horns joined at the bottom by a horizontal bar. They are often depicted in glyptic art or on vases. It does not appear that they were an object of worship, but they supported sacred objects or objects used in worship.
