LEPANTO

LEPANTO. – L., in Greek Naúpaktos, is a city and port of Greece, on the northern coast of the strait separating the Gulf of Patras from that of Corinth; it has remained famous in ecclesiastical history for the battle that took place there on 7 October 1571, between the Christian and Turkish fleets.
