GHIBERTI, Lorenzo. — Sculptor in bronze and art writer, born in Florence in 1378, died there in 1455. He is the leading exponent in Florence of the late Gothic style in sculpture, though he was, in his own way, receptive to the burgeoning humanist taste and to the new optical approach in the Donatellian manner.
