Job shews that the wicked often prosper in this world, even to the end of their life: but that their judgment is in another world.

1Then Job answered, and said:Rispose Giobbe, e disse:BVT Iob answering, sayd:Respondens autem Job, dixit: 2Hear, I beseech you, my words, and do penance. Heare I besech you my wordes, and doe penance. Beare with me, that I also may speake,Audite, quæso, sermones meos, / et agite pœnitentiam. 3Suffer me, and I will speak, and after, if you please, laugh at my words.Soffrite che parli anch'io, e di poi burlatevi, se così vi parrà, delle mie parole.and after my wordes, if it shal seme good, laugh ye.Sustinete me, et ego loquar: / et post mea, si videbitur, verba, ridete. 4Is my debate against man, that I should not have just reason to be troubled? Is my disputation agaynst man, that I ought not worthely to be sorie?Numquid contra hominem disputatio mea est, / ut merito non debeam contristari ? 5Hearken to me and be astonished, and lay your finger on your mouth.Miratemi attentamente, e rimarrete stupefatti, e vi metterete il dita alla bocca:Harken to me, and be astonied, and put the finger vpon your mouth.Attendite me et obstupescite, / et superponite digitum ori vestro. 6As for me, when I remember, I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh. And I when I shal remember, am afrayd, and trembling shaketh my flesh.Et ego, quando recordatus fuero, pertimesco, / et concutit carnem meam tremor. 7Why then do the wicked live, are they advanced, and strengthened with riches? Why then doe the impious liue, are they aduanced, and strengthened with riches?Quare ergo impii vivunt, / sublevati sunt, confortatique divitiis ? 8Their seed continueth before them, a multitude of kinsmen, and of children’s children in their sight. Their seede contineweth before them, a multitude of kinsemen, and of nephewes in their sightSemen eorum permanet coram eis: / propinquorum turba et nepotum in conspectu eorum. 9Their houses are secure and peaceable, and the rod of God is not upon them. Their houses be secure and peaceable, & the rod of God is not vpon them. 10Their cattle have conceived, and failed not: their cow has calved, and is not deprived of her fruit. Their bullock hath conceiued, and hath not made abortion: their cow hath calued, and is not depriued of her calfe.

11Their little ones go out like a flock, and their children dance and play.Escon fuori in truppa come pecore i loro teneri figli, e saltano, e scherzano.Their litle ones goe forth as flockes, and their infantes reioyse with pastimes.Egrediuntur quasi greges parvuli eorum, / et infantes eorum exultant lusibus. 12They take the timbrel, and the harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. They hold the timbrel, & the harpe, & reioyse at the sound of the organe. 13They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment they go down to hell. They lead their daies in wealth, and in a moment they goe downe to hel. 14Who have said to God: Depart from us, we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. Who sayd to God: depart from vs, we wil not the knowlege of thy waies. Who is the Omnipotent,Qui dixerunt Deo: Recede a nobis, / et scientiam viarum tuarum nolumus. 15Who is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what doth it profit us if we pray to him?Chi è quest'Onnipotente, che noi dobbiamo servirlo, e che gioverebbe a noi il pregarlo?that we should serue him? and what doth it profite vs if we shal pray him?Quis est Omnipotens, ut serviamus ei ? / et quid nobis prodest si oraverimus illum ? 16Yet because their good things are not in their hand, may the counsel of the wicked be far from me.Ma poiché in loro potestà non sono i beni loro, sia perciò lungi da me il sistema degli empj. But yet because their good things are not in their hand, be the counsel of the impious far from me.Verumtamen quia non sunt in manu eorum bona sua, / consilium impiorum longe sit a me. 17How often shall the lamp of the wicked be put out, and a deluge come upon them, and he shall distribute the sorrows of his wrath? How often shal the candel of the impious be extinguished, and inundation come vpon them, and shal he deuide the sorowes of his furie?Quoties lucerna impiorum extinguetur, / et superveniet eis inundatio, / et dolores dividet furoris sui ? 18They shall be as chaff before the face of the wind, and as ashes which the whirlwind scattereth. They shal be as chaffe before the face of the winde, and as ashes, which the whirlewinde scattereth.

19God shall lay up the sorrow of the father for his children: and when he shall repay, then shall he know. God shal reserue the sorow of the father to his children: and when he shal haue rendred it, then shal he know. 20His eyes shall see his own destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty. His eies shal see his owne slaughter, and he shal drincke the surie of the Omnipotent. 21For what is it to him what befalleth his house after him: and if the number of his months be diminished by one half? For what doeth it pertayne to him concerning his house after him: although the number of his monethes be diminished the halfe?Quid enim ad eum pertinet de domo sua post se, / et si numerus mensium ejus dimidietur ? 22Shall any one teach God knowledge, who judgeth those that are high?Vi sarà forse chi insegni a Dio, a lui che giudica i grandi?Shal anie man teach God knowledge, who iudgeth the high ones.Numquid Deus docebit quispiam scientiam, / qui excelsos judicat ? 23One man dieth strong, and hale, rich and happy.Quegli muore robusto, e sano, e ricco, e felice; This man dieth strong and in health, rich and happie.Iste moritur robustus et sanus, / dives et felix: 24His bowels are full of fat, and his bones are moistened with marrow.Le sue viscere sono coperte di grasso, e le sue ossa di midollo:His vowels be ful of fatte, and his bones be embrewed with marrow.viscera ejus plena sunt adipe, / et medullis ossa illius irrigantur: 25But another dieth in bitterness of soul without any riches:Un altro poi muore tralle afflizioni di spirito, e privo di ogni bene. But an other dieth in bitternesse of soule without anie riches:alius vero moritur in amaritudine animæ / absque ullis opibus: 26And yet they shall sleep together in the dust, and worms shall cover them.E con tutto ciò si giaceranno insieme nella polvere, e saran ricoperti dai vermi. And yet they shal sleepe together in the dust, and wormes shal couer them.et tamen simul in pulvere dormient, / et vermes operient eos. 27Surely I know your thoughts, and your unjust judgments against me.Certo io comprendo i vostri pensieri, e gli ingiusti giudizj vostri contro di me.Surely I know your cogitations, and vniust sentences agaynst me.Certe novi cogitationes vestras, / et sententias contra me iniquas.

28For you say: Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?Perocché voi dite: La casa di quel principe dov'è? E dove sono i padiglioni degli empj? For you say: Where is the house of the prince? and where are the tabernacles of the impious?Dicitis enim: Ubi est domus principis ? / et ubi tabernacula impiorum ? 29Ask any one of them that go by the way, and you shall perceive that he knoweth these same things. Aske anie of the wayfaring men, and you shal vnderstand that he knoweth these self same thinges.Interrogate quemlibet de viatoribus, / et hæc eadem illum intelligere cognoscetis: 30Because the wicked man is reserved to the day of destruction, and he shall be brought to the day of wrath. Because the euil man is kept vnto the day of perdition, and he shal be led to the day of furie.quia in diem perditionis servatur malus, / et ad diem furoris ducetur. 31Who shall reprove his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?Chi biasimerà in faccia a lui i suoi andamenti? E chi a lui renderà quel ch'egli ha fatto?Who shal reproue his way before him? and who shal repay him the thinges that he hath done?Quis arguet coram eo viam ejus ? / et quæ fecit, quis reddet illi ? 32He shall be brought to the graves, and shall watch in the heap of the dead. He shal be brought to the graues, and shal watch in the heade of the dead. 33He hath been acceptable to the gravel of Cocytus, and he shall draw every man after him, and there are innumerable before him. He hath beene sweete to the grauel of Cocytus, & after him he shal drawe euerie man, and before him innumerable. 34How then do ye comfort me in vain, whereas your answer is shewn to be repugnant to truth? How therfore doe ye comforth me in vayne, whereas your answer is shewed to be repugnant to the truth?Quomodo igitur consolamini me frustra, / cum responsio vestra repugnare ostensa sit veritati ?
