DOSITEO, SANTO

DOSITHEUS, St. — Palestinian monk of the cenobium of St. Seridus near Gaza, d. c. 530, assisted by St. Barsanuphius. His encomium was written by his renowned master, St. Dorotheus (Institut., I, 15: PG 88, 1636-37). From it we learn how this youth, reared in a life of comfort and almost without religious instruction, attained, within the brief span of five years, to the highest sanctity, not through rigorous thought but through the simplicity of his obedience and the abnegation of his own will.
