1 Cinque nuove sedes già erette;
6 Del resto ciascun Vescovo si adoperi e si sforzi di conservare intatta e salva la religione cattolica apostolica romana con quei diritti e prerogative di cui per divina e canonica sanzione essa stessa usa e gode. Perciò egli avrà cura diligentissima affinché in nessun modo si insinuino o si diffondano errori contrari all'integrità della fede e ai costumi dannosi. Mentre inoltre si sforzi di mantenere libera comunicazione con la santa Sede Apostolica e provveda prudentemente a rimuovere le cause che potrebbero ostacolare questa libertà. Sarà parimente compito del medesimo Vescovo indire pubbliche preghiere e altre pie opere, quando il bene della Chiesa, o lo stato, o il popolo lo richieda, decretare parimenti sacre supplicazioni e pellegrinaggi, celebrare funerali e altre funzioni sacre. Gli sarà libero convocare, celebrare e moderare il Sinodo diocesano e pubblicarne gli atti, osservate però in tutto le prescrizioni canoniche. Similmente vogliamo che rimanga libera ai medesimi nuovi Vescovi l'elezione canonica e l'istituzione di idonei parroci, osservato quanto per diritto e per consuetudine deve osservarsi. I nuovi Antistiti si curino diligentemente che l'istituzione della gioventù cattolica nelle scuole sia pubbliche sia private, per quanto principalmente sarà possibile, sia accuratamente raccomandata secondo la norma della dottrina cattolica; si sforzino essi perciò con l'autorità del loro ufficio pastorale di moderare così l'istituzione religiosa della medesima gioventù, che mai nella trasmissione di qualsiasi disciplina si insinui nulla contrario alla religione cattolica e all'onestà dei costumi. Inoltre nell'istituzione della medesima gioventù uomini cattolici siano nominati come professori o maestri per quanto sarà possibile; e poiché nel maestro di scuola non meno l'onestà della fede che dei costumi è necessaria, se alcuno si trovasse claudicante in uno dei due, il medesimo Vescovo si curi di rimuoverlo. Vogliamo che ciò sia stabilito per la conservazione delle istituzioni pie, affinché i singoli istituti religiosi, corporazioni, pie confraternite sia già esistenti sia future conservino liberamente e validamente propugnino tanto il libero possesso di beni loro qualunque, quanto anche la piena potestà e il pieno diritto di ricevere liberamente, godere e amministrare beni, rendite, donazioni legittimamente offerte e pervenute, e decerniamo che nessuna soppressione, unione o alienazione di essi possa farsi senza l'intervento dell'autorità della Sede Apostolica, salve le facoltà tributate ai Vescovi dal sacro Concilio di Trento. La tassa canonica in ciascuna spedizione solenne di lettere apostoliche, quante volte si compiano. Stabiliamo che il nuovo Antistite sia preposto a ciascuna delle predette chiese novellamente erette in cento fiorini d'oro della Camera; e così ordiniamo che sia iscritto nei libri della Congregazione dei Cardinali della S. R. E. e conservato nel suo tabulario. Del resto quanto alle cose, diritti e persone ecclesiastiche, dei quali nessuna menzione espressa è stata fatta nelle presenti lettere, rimangano del tutto ratificati e fermi come prima; che se sopravvenisse qualche difficoltà, essa secondo le leggi canoniche dovrà essere deferrita alla medesima Sede Apostolica, e sarà della Sede Apostolica dichiarare, diluire e comporre tutte queste cose;

Jidejium, episcopal sees seemed to be multiplied.
1 Five new sees have already been erected;
2 THAT above all with every care and diligence ought the Roman Pontiffs, to whom the supreme pastor of souls has committed his flock to be governed, to ensure that safe folds are at hand, and that watchful and solicitous shepherds preside, who may lead the flock itself to wholesome pastures and defend it from dangers, and that it lack no assistance by which it may more easily reach the heavenly homeland. For this reason Our predecessors have carefully provided that either very extensive dioceses be circumscribed, or new sees be erected, according as they perceived it to be more salutary for the salvation of souls.
3 Indeed, the increase of the Catholic religion growing daily, by God's favor, in the Mexican regions demands that We direct the cares of Our pastoral office diligently toward them and provide more beneficially for the spiritual good and advantage of their Christian faithful through the erection of new episcopal sees and a more suitable constitution of ecclesiastical Hierarchy established there. For certain dioceses there extend so widely and contain places so distant from one another, that it rarely happens that their Ordinaries, whether on account of the distance of those very places, or also on account of the unhealthiness of the air, are prevented from visiting the sheep committed to them, which indeed is no light danger and detriment to the Lord's flock. Moved by these causes, Our predecessor of happy memory, Pope Pius the Ninth, in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, formed three new provinces from the Archbishopric of Mexico, and shortly thereafter elevated the Vicariate of Tamaulipas to the honor of a cathedral church; and We ourselves, from the very beginning of Our Pontificate, to which by the ineffable abundance of divine goodness We have been assumed, have instituted two other episcopal sees in the same Mexican territory, namely one of Tabasco and another of Colima respectively named. Yet experience demonstrates that even through such erection of new dioceses the spiritual good and also the advantage of their Christian faithful has not been sufficiently consulted; for most difficult intercourse still exists between the sheep and shepherds, and very many of those same shepherds are prevented from visiting the entire flock entrusted to them. Therefore, to the wishes of Our Venerable Brethren, the Ordinaries of the Mexican territory, and of many of the clergy and illustrious men of the Catholic faith of that same territory, by which they were beseeching Us and the Holy Apostolic See that the number of episcopal sees there be increased, and that easier communication of their faithful with their own Bishops be provided for, We have judged it not only opportune but indeed necessary in the Lord to accede. For this very purpose We wished to ask those same Mexican Ordinaries to open their mind and propose a new division of provinces, which might appear more useful for the new sees to be instituted. Which indeed having been willingly provided by the aforesaid Prelates, We, assenting to their judgment, having first called upon Our Venerable Brethren also, the Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church, to whom ecclesiastical matters are proposed, and they approving the counsel, We have judged that the proposed constitution of the new Hierarchy ought not to be further delayed.
4 Having therefore obtained and accepted as ratified the consent of the aforesaid Bishops of the Mexican dominion and of all and each of them to the effect written below, and, insofar as it may be necessary, supplying by Our supreme authority to the assent of all and each and every one whosoever may have an interest therein or be thought or presumed to have one, to which assent not having been given; and having examined and weighed with mature deliberation all things which are to be considered in such matters, and moreover absolving by this document all and each to whom these letters are favourable from any excommunication and interdict and other ecclesiastical sentences, censures and penalties, if they are bound by them in any manner whatsoever, solely for the purpose of obtaining the effect of these presents, and holding them to be absolved, by Our own motion and from certain knowledge and from the fullness of Apostolic power, We decree that a new ecclesiastical hierarchy in the Mexican dominion shall be constituted by six, as it were, archiepiscopal or metropolitan, and twenty-nine episcopal sees, as well as a vicariate of Lower California. The episcopal sees of Antequera (or Oaxaca), which are at present suffragans of the Mexican metropolitan church, and of Linares and of Durango, which are respectively suffragans of the Guadalajara metropolitan churches, and their respective cathedrals, episcopal seats, the essence, nature and status of cathedralship for the purpose of the new erection written below, We perpetually suppress and extinguish by Apostolic authority, and We exempt and free them from any metropolitan jurisdiction of those Archbishops and from any other superiority; and those of Antequera, of Linares and of Durango being thus suppressed, extinguished, exempted and freed, We by like authority perpetually raise and exalt the same churches of Antequera, of Linares and of Durango to the more eminent grade and pinnacle of archiepiscopal and metropolitan churches, so that they themselves from now henceforth shall be called archiepiscopal and metropolitan churches, and shall be such in reality and fact, and accordingly shall use, enjoy and possess all and each of the rights, jurisdictions, honours, graces, favours, indults, prerogatives, pre-eminences and privileges and others, by which the other three metropolitan churches in the same Mexican dominion enjoy, possess and have by common law, in like manner and without any difference whatsoever. But in order that the Mexican people, most dear to Us, may have easier communication with their own pastors and may be directed by them, which is especially Our concern, through the paths of justice to the heavenly pastures, We will that five other episcopal sees, besides those already existing, one namely from Chihuahua, another from Saltillo, another from Tepic, another from Cuernavaca and the remaining one from Tehuantepec, to be respectively named, by the aforesaid Apostolic authority We perpetually likewise erect and institute. From the Bishopric of Durango therefore, soon after it is erected into an archbishopric as aforesaid, We wholly dismember the entire territory of the civil state called Chihuahua, and We adjudicate it to the newly erected episcopal see of Chihuahua for its diocese. That diocese of Chihuahua shall therefore consist of the aforesaid territory and the parishes existing therein — St. Jerome, St. Andrew, Taramar, Batopilas, St. Borja, Chihuahua, Casas Grandes, Carichic, Chinipas, Cosihuiriachic, Villa de la Concepcion, St. Cruz de Rosales, St. Cruz de Herrera, St. Eulalia, Colonta de Guadalupe, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guazapares, Huejuquilla, Huejotitan, St. Isabel, Janos, Jesus Maria, Julimes, Loreto, St. Lorenzo, Morelos, Moris, Nonoaba, Norogachic, Paso del Norte, Presidio del Norte, St. Pablo, Parral, Pilar de Conchos, Rio florido, St. Rosalia, Satevé, Sisoguichic, Temechic, Temosachic, Temochic, Tervachic, St. Thomas, Urnachic, Valleza, Valle de St. Bartolo, and Valle de St. Buenaventura — : in the city of Chihuahua, the principal city of that territory, We establish the episcopal see and cathedral, and We perpetually raise the church dedicated to the Most Holy Cross to the grade and dignity of a cathedral church. From the aforesaid bishopric of Durango moreover and from another of Linares, in the archbishoprics recently also erected as aforesaid, for the new diocese of Saltillo to be constituted We separate the territory of the civil state called Coahuila, and We attribute it with the parishes Santiago and St. Stephen in the capital city commonly called Saltillo, Arteaga, Ramos Arispe, Candela, Monclova, San Buenaventura, Nadadores, Cuatro Cienegas, Santa Rosa, San Fernando, Nava, Piedras Negras, Rio Grande and Progreso, to the Archbishopric of Linares, and the other parishes, namely Alamo de Parras, Matamoros de la Laguna, and Parras, at present pertaining to the Archbishopric of Durango, to the same new episcopal see of Saltillo, and at the same time We establish its cathedral in the city of Saltillo and We erect the church dedicated to the Apostle St. James into a cathedral. As to the new other episcopal see of Tepic, We will that it be thus constituted: it shall indeed embrace the territory of that name which consists of five districts, and moreover there shall be added to it another district of the civil state of Jalisco, called Mascota, which at present pertains to the archbishopric of Guadalajara, which We therefore declare to be dismembered and separated from it and adjudicate to it the parishes written below, one namely Acaponeta, another Ahuacatlan, another Compostella, another Fatlaa, another Fala, another Jalisco, another Rosa Morada, another San Blas, another Santa Maria del Oro, another Santiago, another Tepic, another Juxpon, another Guachinango, another Mascota, another San Sebastiano and the remaining Talpa respectively named, and moreover the following vicariates shall be assigned, namely Huagicori, Laquavillas y St. José, Cacaluta, San Luis, Falcotán, San Leone, Zopilote, Santa Cruz y Nayarit, Sontispac, Anteguillo, Cuale, Los Reyes, and Bramador: in the principal city of that territory, which they call Tepic, let the see and cathedral of this new bishopric be established, and let it be the cathedral church, which is found to be at present dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary Assumed into Heaven. The episcopal see and cathedral of the other episcopal church of Cuernavaca We establish in the city which bears the same title of Cuernavaca and the church likewise sacred to the Blessed Virgin Mary Assumed into Heaven We declare to be cathedral. To this episcopal see of Cuernavaca moreover for its diocese We assign the state called Morelos, which has six districts which We separate from the Mexican Archbishopric for this purpose, namely the parishes Cuantla Morelos, Yecapixtla, Yantepec, Flatizapam, Flalquiltenango, Yojutla, Tlayacapan, Totolapan, Tlalnepantla, Cuantenca, Atlatlahucan, Oaxtepec, Humiltepec, Archichipo, Tetela del Volcan, Jonatepec, Tepalcingo, Atlacahualoya, Jantetelco, Facualpan, Amilpas Oacituco, Cuernavaca, Oxochitepec, Amatepec with its three vicariates, Tetecula, Miacatlan and Coatlan, Tintepec with its vicaria, Tejalpan and Teportlan, to which shall be joined another parish Amacuzac and part of the parish of Jatla, as well as the vicaria Tlalquitenango. The remaining finally new diocese of Tehuantepec shall embrace two districts of Tehuantepec and Juchitan, as well as part of the district of Choapan pertaining to the civil state of Oaxaca. And this shall consist of the district of Minatitlan and Acoyucan, and the greater part of the district of Cosamaloapan pertaining to the civil state of Vera Cruz. This diocese shall therefore be constituted by the parishes Chacaltianguis, Tesechoacan, Paso de St. Juan, Achayucan and Chinameca (to which the town of Jaltipan and Minatitlan were added) at present pertaining to the bishopric of Vera Cruz, which shall be exempted from the same bishopric by the natural boundary of the rivers, to which the names Papolopan and St. Juan belong, as well as the other parishes Tehuantepec, St. Maria, Chimalapa, Niltepec, St. Matthew of the Sea, Petapa, Guichicovi, San Jeronimo, Juchitan, Huamelula, Jalapa, Tequisistlan, Acatlan, Puxmetacan, Yahuive, Lalana, Playa Vincente and Otatilan, which We separate from the Bishopric of Oaxaca or Antequera and declare to be separated. The episcopal cathedral of this new see We establish in the city of Tehuantepec, and likewise the church formerly dedicated to St. Dominic, now to the Blessed Virgin Mary Immaculate, We perpetually raise to the honour and dignity of cathedralship. All therefore and each of the faithful inhabiting the new dioceses thus constituted as aforesaid (those only excepted, if any there be, who enjoy a singular exemption) together with their surrounding places, pious institutions, annexed things, lands, towns and together with rights both real and personal and mixed, We adjoin to each newly erected diocese and perpetually subject, and We decree that they shall be adjudged and subjected, to be governed and administered by their Ordinary Bishop, to whose words they shall be obedient with ready mind. In like manner We command that all monuments, rights and documents which concern the peoples to be incorporated into the new dioceses, and which are at present preserved in each of those dioceses, shall be extracted therefrom, and as soon as possible shall be delivered to the prefect of the archives of the newly erected diocese to be kept there as opportunity permits. The five dioceses thus erected and constituted as aforesaid being new, We decree that the ancient sees, whether metropolitan or episcopal, shall undergo the following change: namely, from the Mexican archbishopric the parish of Tasco situated in the civil state of Guerrero shall be exempted, and it shall be incorporated into the diocese of Chilapa; from the said archbishopric moreover the parishes of Jochimilio and another of Tula situated in the civil state of Hidalgo shall be separated and the first said shall be annexed to the bishopric of Puebla, the second said parish moreover to the bishopric of Tulancingo respectively; the parishes of Coycoyan and of Mixtepec situated in the district of Justlahuaca (civil state of Oaxaca) shall likewise be dismembered from the bishopric of Puebla, as well as two foranies of Tehuacan and Coxcatlan situated in the civil state of Puebla, and they shall be incorporated into the new archbishopric of Antequera; likewise to the same archbishopric shall be annexed the town of Omapa situated in the civil state of Oaxaca. Finally to the archbishopric of Linares that small part of the bishopric of St. Aloysius of Potosí which is situated in the civil state of Nuevo León shall be adjudicated. As to the other dioceses instituted at another time, We now will that nothing concerning their state and definition be changed. Now the new cathedral churches of the sees erected as aforesaid, the full parity of rights with the ancient being observed, shall all identically and each enjoy and possess all honours, prerogatives, graces, indults and others by which the other cathedral churches in the Mexican dominion enjoy and possess by common law. Likewise he who shall have the title, pre-eminence, dignity and ministry of bishop shall enjoy and perform all and each of those things which are ordinarily proper to Bishops. In like manner the new flocks of Christians shall enjoy the same rights, honours, favours and privileges by which the sheep of the diocese to which they pass enjoy by common law. We decree that nothing concerning the endowment of the said newly erected episcopal sees shall be established by these presents. For it is known to Us the piety and religion of the Mexican people, wherefore We trust that to the new Bishops there shall not be lacking support and assistance to enable them to perform the pastoral office and decently to maintain the episcopal dignity. Since moreover it is of the greatest importance that, as fruitful olive trees in the fields of Christ the Lord, worthy and learned priests be constantly prepared for each diocese, to labour diligently both in divine and ecclesiastical offices and in the edification of souls and their eternal salvation, We therefore command that in each diocese there be erected a seminary in which there shall be received and trained according to the prescriptions of the Council of Trent those youths whom the Bishops, having regard to the utility or necessity of their own diocese, shall judge to be admitted. The rectors and professors of this seminary shall be freely named by the same Bishop, and it shall be free for the same Bishop, whenever he shall judge it necessary or useful, to remove them. But that which greatly urges Us is that the sacred Bishops expend all care that the youth in hope of the Church to be formed shall be imbued with the sacred and heavenly doctrine of the Angelic Doctor; for when that youth itself shall have committed itself to the discipline and patronage of the same Angelic Doctor, wisdom of true name shall easily flourish, drawn from firm principles, explained by reason and order. Finally all things which pertain to the seminary's government, organization, administration and management ought to depend solely upon the diocesan Bishop; which Bishop shall exercise his free and full authority and right and duties therein. It shall moreover be free for Bishops to promote to the clerical state and to sacred orders according to ecclesiastical canons those whom they shall judge necessary or useful for their diocese, and conversely to exclude from the reception of orders those whom they shall judge unworthy.
5 Until, however, the new sacred Prelate shall have his cathedral chapter in his own cathedral church, let him establish for himself vicars, counsellors and assistants for his administration, men of the Church whom he shall judge suitable for performing the sacred episcopal ministries.
6 Moreover, let each Bishop strive to keep and defend the holy Catholic Apostolic Roman religion intact and unimpaired with those rights and prerogatives by which from divine and canonical sanction it itself uses and enjoys. He shall therefore take the greatest care lest in any way errors contrary to the integrity of faith and pernicious to morals creep in or be spread abroad. Since moreover he shall strive to maintain free communication with the holy Apostolic See and prudently take care to remove those causes which might hinder this freedom. It shall likewise be the duty of the same Bishop to proclaim public prayers and other pious works, when the good of the Church, or the state, or the people demands it, to decree sacred supplications and pilgrimages likewise, to preside over funerals and other sacred functions. It shall be free for him to convoke, celebrate and direct a diocesan Synod and to publish its acts, observing however in all things the canonical prescriptions. Likewise we wish to remain free for these same new Bishops the suitable election and canonical institution of parish priests, observing what is to be observed by right and custom. But let the new Prelates take care diligently that the instruction of Catholic youth in schools whether public or private, insofar as it can chiefly be done, be accurately commended according to the norm of Catholic doctrine; let them therefore strive by the authority of their pastoral office to direct the religious instruction of the same youth in such a way that never in the teaching of any discipline shall anything creep in contrary to Catholic religion and the honesty of morals. Moreover in instructing the same youth, Catholic men shall be appointed as teachers or masters insofar as it shall be possible; and since in a schoolmaster honesty of morals is no less necessary than faith, if anyone be found to be deficient in either, the same Bishop shall take care to remove him. We wish this to be established for the preservation of pious institutions, that each religious institute, corporation, pious sodality whether already existing or future shall freely and validly maintain and defend both the free possession of their goods of whatever kind, and also the full power and complete right freely to receive, enjoy and administer goods, revenues, donations legitimately offered and accruing, and we decree that no suppression, union, or alienation of theirs can be made without the intervention of the authority of the Apostolic See, saving the faculties granted to Bishops by the sacred Council of Trent. We establish a canonical tax in each solemn expedition of Apostolic letters whenever a new Prelate shall be appointed to each of the aforesaid newly erected churches in one hundred gold florins of the Camera; and thus we command that it be inscribed in the books of the Congregation of the S.R.E. and the College of Cardinals and preserved in its archives. Moreover, as to things, rights and ecclesiastical persons concerning which no express mention has been made in the present letters, let them remain altogether valid and firm as before; but if any difficulty shall arise, it shall be referred according to canonical laws to the same Apostolic See, and it shall be the duty of that See to declare, explain and settle all these matters;
7 those matters likewise, whether pertaining to rights, or to duties, or to things (in an ecclesiastical regard) which are not expressed in the present Our constitution, We will that they be regularly held and exercised and administered according to the doctrine of the Catholic Church and its discipline admitted by the Apostolic See. Finally, if the good of these new dioceses or public utility should require in the future another new circumscription or some division, even without any territorial compensation added, We reserve to Ourselves and to the same Apostolic See full and free power to carry this out. All these foregoing matters therefore being completed and finished as aforesaid, a new ecclesiastical Hierarchy in the Mexican dominion shall be constituted according to the following plan: To the Archbishopric of Mexico namely We subject as suffragans the churches of Puebla, Vera Cruz, Tulancingo, Chilapa and Cuernavaca; the archbishopric of Guadalajara shall have as suffragans the churches of Zacatecas, Tepic and Colima; to the Archbishopric of Michoacan shall be suffragans the churches of Zamora, Leon and Queretaro; to the Archbishopric of Antequera, or Oaxaca, shall be suffragans the churches of Yucatan, Chiapas, Tabasco and Tehuantepec; finally the churches of St. Louis of Potosi, Saltillo and Tamaulipas We add as suffragans to the archbishopric of Linares, and the episcopal churches of Chihuahua, Sinaloa and Sonora, as well as the vicariate of Lower California to the archbishopric of Durango as suffragans, and accordingly We subject them and declare them to be subject to the metropolitan right of those Archbishops respectively. These things We will, establish and sanction; decreeing that these Our letters and whatever is contained in them shall at no time ever be able to be impugned, invalidated, brought into question or reduced to a longer process, or any remedy of law or fact, or of grace or justice be obtained against them, on account of any head whatsoever or for any cause, however juridical, legitimate and privileged, even from the fact that the causes on account of which all the foregoing things were issued, verified and justified may not have been verified and justified, from the vice of subreptitiousness or obreption or nullity, or from any defect of Our intention or any other substantial, most substantial and requiring special and individual mention and expression defect, or even from the fact that in the foregoing matters and in any of them the solemnities and whatever else ought to be observed and fulfilled

10 to the Archbishop of Guadalajara are to be commanded to be observed and fulfilled, or from any other head, color or pretext, or other reason or cause, even such as would necessarily need to be expressed for the effect of their solidity, be noted, impugned, invalidated, brought into law or controversy, or reduced to a way and longer process, or any remedy whatsoever of law or fact, or of grace or justice be obtained against them, or even with equal motion granted and obtained, anyone be able to use or avail himself of them in judgment and outside of it, and that these same presents under whatsoever revocations, suspensions, limitations, derogations or other contrary dispositions of similar or dissimilar grants issued or to be issued by whatsoever letters and Apostolic constitutions or rules of the Apostolic chancery be in no way comprehended or confused, or if comprehended or confused be in any way deemed so, but always be excepted from them, and as often as those shall be issued, so often shall they be restored to their pristine and most valid state, replaced and fully restored, and anew also under whatsoever later date whatsoever to be chosen be granted and shall be, and obtain and secure their full and complete effects and thus be deemed by all, and so and not otherwise by whatsoever judges ordinary or delegated exercising any authority or bearing any dignity, even the Auditors of the causes of the Apostolic Palace, and the Cardinals of the same Holy Roman Church, even Legates a latere, vice Legates and Nuncios of the said See, power, faculty and authority to judge otherwise and interpret being taken away from them and from each one whatsoever, be judged and defined, and likewise be null and void, if otherwise concerning these things by anyone whatsoever with any authority knowingly or unknowingly should happen to be attempted. Wherefore to Our Venerable Brother Peter Loz, present Archbishop of Guadalajara, by these same presents We commit and command, that he proceed to the execution of all and each of the foregoing matters, imparting to him all and each of the faculties necessary and opportune to him in any way for that, so also that the same Peter Archbishop, if he should not be able to execute all the aforesaid things by himself, may delegate another person, constituted however in ecclesiastical dignity.
11 Notwithstanding Our and the Apostolic Chancery rule concerning acquired right not to be taken away, and the prohibitions of the most recently celebrated Lateran Council against perpetual dismemberments except in cases permitted by law, and also other constitutions and ordinances, whether special or general, issued or to be issued in synodal, provincial, general and universal Councils, as well as Apostolic privileges, indults and letters of any kind whatsoever granted, approved, confirmed and renewed to superior and inferior persons in general or in particular, or otherwise in contravention of the foregoing in any manner whatsoever, all and singular of which, even if special, specific, express and individual mention of them and their tenor, or any other expression, or any other exquisite form to be observed for this purpose, were to be required, we, holding the tenor of these as if they were inserted word for word with nothing whatsoever omitted and the form transmitted in them observed, and as if they were fully and sufficiently expressed herein, which otherwise would remain in their force, do hereby derogate from them in the widest and fullest manner, and specially and expressly for the purpose of the present, and of the validity of all and singular the foregoing, for this occasion only, by Our own motion, knowledge and fullness of power, and by the tenor of these letters likewise. We will, moreover, that to copies of these letters, even if printed, yet subscribed by the hand of some public notary and furnished with the seal of some person constituted in ecclesiastical dignity, the same faith shall be given in judgment and outside of it as would be given to these same letters if they were exhibited or shown in the original.
12 Let no one whatsoever be permitted to infringe this page of Our absolution, decree, suppression, extinction, exemption, liberation, elevation, erection, institution, dismemberment, adjudication, foundation, distraction, attribution, constitution, declaration, separation, addiction, subjection, incorporation, statute, edict, precept, mandate, concession, impartition, derogation and will, or to dare to act contrary to it with rash presumption; if anyone, however, shall presume to attempt this, let him know that he will incur the indignation of Almighty God and of the blessed Apostles Peter and Paul.
