SINODO DI PISTOIA: V. RICCI, Scipione de'
**SINOICHIA** (Συνοδία). — Athenian festival celebrated on the 16th of Hekatombaion (July-August) in honor of Athena, the city's protector, commemorating the peace and union among the ancient cities restored by Theseus.
In this festival, which served as a prelude to the Panathenaia, an unbloody sacrifice was offered to Peace, most likely in the ancient Prytaneion, before the statue of Eirene; in later times (4th century B.C.), this sacrifice was instead offered with numerous animal victims.
