The parable of the sower. Christ stills the tempest at sea.

1And again he began to teach by the sea side; and a great multitude was gathered together unto him, so that he went up into a ship and sat in the sea: and all the multitude was upon the land by the sea side.E cominciò di nuovo a insegnare vicino al mare: e si raunò intorno a lui moltitudine di gente; dimodoché montato in una barca sedeva sul mare: e tutta quanta la turba stava in terra lungo la marina:AND againe he began to teach at the sea side: and a great multitude vvas gathered together vnto him, so that he vvent vp into a boate, and sate in the sea, and al the multitude about the sea vvas vpon the land:Et iterum cœpit docere ad mare: et congregata est ad eum turba multa, ita ut navim ascendens sederet in mari, et omnis turba circa mare super terram erat: 2And he taught them many things in parables, and said unto them in his doctrine:E insegnava loro molte cose per via di parabole, e diceva loro secondo la sua maniera d'insegnare:and he taught them in parables many things, and said to them in his doctrine,et docebat eos in parabolis multa, et dicebat illis in doctrina sua: 3Hear ye: Behold, the sower went out to sow. Heare ye: Behold, the sovver vvent forth to sovv.Audite: ecce exiit seminans ad seminandum. 4And whilst he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the birds of the air came and ate it up.E mentre seminava, parte (del seme) cadde lungo la strada, e venner gli uccelli dell'aria, e lo mangiarono. And vvhiles he sovveth, some fel by the vvay side, and the foules of the aire came, and did eate it.Et dum seminat, aliud cecidit circa viam, et venerunt volucres cæli, et comederunt illud. 5And other some fell upon stony ground, where it had not much earth; and it shot up immediately, because it had no depth of earth.Un'altra parte cascò in luogo sassoso, dove non trovò molta terra: e subito nacque, perché non aveva terren profondo:And othersome fel vpon rocky places vvhere it had not much earth: and it shot vp immediatly, because it had not deepnes of earth:Aliud vero cecidit super petrosa, ubi non habuit terram multam: et statim exortum est, quoniam non habebat altitudinem terræ: 6And when the sun was risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.Ma levatosi il sole, fu arso dal calore: e, perché non aveva barbicato, seccò.and vvhen the sunne was risen, it parched, and because it had not roote, it vvithered.et quando exortus est sol, exæstuavit: et eo quod non habebat radicem, exaruit. 7And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. And some fel among thornes: and the thornes grewe vp, and choked it, and it yelded not fruite.

8And some fell upon good ground; and brought forth fruit that grew up, and increased and yielded, one thirty, another sixty, and another a hundred. And some fel vpon good ground: and it yelded fruite that grewe vp and increased, and it brought forth, one thirtie, one sixtie, and one an hundred.Et aliud cecidit in terram bonam: et dabat fructum ascendentem et crescentem, et afferebat unum triginta, unum sexaginta, et unum centum. 9And he said: He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.E diceva loro: Chi ha orecchie da intendere, intenda. And he said, He that hath eares to heare, let him heare.Et dicebat: Qui habet aures audiendi, audiat. 10And when he was alone, the twelve that were with him asked him the parable. And vvhen he vvas alone, the Tvvelue that vvere vvith him, asked him the parable. 11And he said to them: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but to them that are without, all things are done in parables:Ed egli diceva loro: A voi è dato d'intendere il mistero del regno di Dio; ma per quelli, che sono fuora, tutto si fa per via di parabole:And he said to them, To you it is giuen to knovv the mysterie of the kingdom of God: but to them that are vvithout, al things are done in parables:Et dicebat eis: Vobis datum est nosse mysterium regni Dei: illis autem, qui foris sunt, in parabolis omnia fiunt: 12That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.Affinchè vedendo veggano, e non reggano: e udendo odano, e non intendano: perché non si convertano una volta, e sian loro rimessi i peccati.that seeing they may see, and not see: and hearing they may heare, and not vnderstand: lest at any time they should be conuerted and their sinnes be forgiuen them.ut videntes videant, et non videant: et audientes audiant, et non intelligant: nequando convertantur, et dimittantur eis peccata. 13And he saith to them: Are you ignorant of this, parable? and how shall you know all parables?E disse loro: Non intendete questa parabola? e come intenderete tutte (le altre) parabole? And he saith to them, Do you not knovv this parable? and hovv shal you knovv al parables?Et ait illis: Nescitis parabolam hanc ? Et quomodo omnes parabolas cognoscetis ?

14He that soweth, soweth the word. He that sovveth: sovveth the vvord.Qui seminat, verbum seminat. 15And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown, and as soon as they have heard, immediately Satan cometh and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. And they by the vvay side, are these: vvhere the vvord is sovven, and vvhen they shal haue heard, immediatly commeth Satan, and taketh avvay the vvord that vvas sovven in their hartes. 16And these likewise are they that are sown on the stony ground: who when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy.Similmente quelli, che han ricevuto il seme in luoghi sassosi, sono coloro, che, udita la parola, subito l'abbracciano con allegrezza:And thy likevvise that are sovven vpon the rocky places, are these: vvho vvhen they heare the vvord, immediatly vvith ioy receiue it:Et hi sunt similiter, qui super petrosa seminantur: qui cum audierint verbum, statim cum gaudio accipiunt illud: 17And they have no root in themselves, but are only for a time: and then when tribulation and persecution ariseth for the word they are presently scandalized.E non hanno in se radice; ma son di corta durata: e venuta poi la tribolazione, e la persecuzione a motivo della parola, restano subito scandalizzati.and they haue not roote in them selues, but are temporal: aftervvard vvhen tribulation is risen and persecution for the vvord, forthvvith they are scandalized.et non habent radicem in se, sed temporales sunt: deinde orta tribulatione et persecutione propter verbum, confestim scandalizantur. 18And others there are who are sown among thorns: these are they that hear the word,Quelli, che ricevono il seme tra le spine, sono coloro, i quali ascoltano la parola:And other there be that are sovven among thornes: these are they that heare the vvord,Et alii sunt qui in spinas seminantur: hi sunt qui verbum audiunt, 19And the cares of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts after other things entering in choke the word, and it is made fruitless.Ma le sollecitudini del secolo, e le ingannevoli ricchezze, e gli altri disordinati affetti sopravvenendo soffocano la parola; ed ella rimane infruttuosa.and the cares of the vvorld and the deceitfulnes of riches, and concupiscences about other things entring in choke the vvord, and it is made fruiteles.et ærumnæ sæculi, et deceptio divitiarum, et circa reliqua concupiscentiæ introëuntes suffocant verbum, et sine fructu efficitur.

20And these are they who are sown upon the good ground, who hear the word, and receive it, and yield fruit, the one thirty, another sixty, and another a hundred. And these are they that vvere sovven vpon the good ground, vvhich heare the vvord and receiue it, and yeld fruite one thirtie, one sixtie, and one an hundred. 21And he said to them: Doth a candle come in to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?E diceva loro: Forse che vien fuori la lucerna per essere messa sotto del moggio, o sotto al letto? non vien ella per esser posta sul candeliere? And he said to them, Commeth a candel to be put vnder a bushel, or vnder a bed? and not to be put vpon the candlesticke?Et dicebat illis: Numquid venit lucerna ut sub modo ponatur, aut sub lecto ? nonne ut super candelabrum ponatur ? 22For there is nothing hid, which shall not be made manifest: neither was it made secret, but that it may come abroad. For there is nothing hid, vvhich shal not be made manifest: neither vvas any thing made secret, but that it shal come to light. 23If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.Chi ha orecchie da intendere, intenda. If any man haue eares to heare, let him heare.Si quis habet aures audiendi, audiat. 24And he said to them: Take heed what you hear. In what measure you shall mete, it shall be measured to you again, and more shall be given to you.E diceva loro: Badate a quello, che udite. Con quella misura, colla quale avrete misurato, sarà rimisurato a voi, e con giunta. And he said to them, See vvhat you heare. In vvhat measure you mete, it shal be measured to you againe, and more shal be giuen to you.'Et dicebat illis: Videte quid audiatis. In qua mensura mensi fueritis, remetietur vobis, et adjicietur vobis. 25For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, that also which he hath shall be taken away from him. For he that hath, to him shal be giuen: and he that hath not, that also vvhich he hath, shal be taken avvay from him.

26And he said: So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the earth,Diceva ancora: Il regno di Dio è, come se uno getta il seme sopra la terra. And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man cast seede into the earth,Et dicebat: Sic est regnum Dei, quemadmodum si homo jaciat sementem in terram, 27And should sleep, and rise, night and day, and the seed should spring, and grow up whilst he knoweth not.E dorme, e si alza notte, e dì: e il seme barbica, e cresce, mentr'ei noi sa,and sleepe, and rise vp night and day, and the seede spring, and grovve vp vvhiles he knovveth not.et dormiat, et exsurgat nocte et die, et semen germinet, et increscat dum nescit ille. 28For the earth of itself bringeth forth fruit, first the blade, then the ear, afterwards the full corn in the ear. For the earth of it self bringeth forth fruite, first the blade, then the eare, aftervvard the ful corne in the eare.Ultro enim terra fructificat, primum herbam, deinde spicam, deinde plenum frumentum in spica. 29And when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.E formato che sia il frutto, tosto vi si mette la falce, perché è tempo di messe. And vvhen the fruite hath brought out it self, immediatly he putteth in the sickle, because haruest is come. 30And he said: To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? or to what parable shall we compare it?E diceva ancora: A qual cosa assomiglieremo noi il regno di Dio? o con qual parabola lo figureremo? And he said, To vvhat shal vve liken the kingdom of God? or to vvhat parable shal vve compare it?Et dicebat: Cui assimilabimus regnum Dei ? aut cui parabolæ comparabimus illud ? 31It is as a grain of mustard seed: which when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth:Egli è come un granello di senapa, il quale, quando si semina in terra, è il minimo di tutti i semi, che sono al mondo. As a mustard seede: vvhich vvhen it is sovven in the earth, is lesse then al the seedes that are in the earth:Sicut granum sinapis, quod cum seminatum fuerit in terra, minus est omnibus seminibus, quæ sunt in terra: 32And when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches, so that the birds of the air may dwell under the shadow thereof.Ma seminato che è, si innalza, e diventa maggiore di tutti i legami, e fa gran rami; dimodoché gli uccelli dell'aria all'ombra di lui possono allargare.and vvhen it is sovven, it riseth vp, and becommeth greater then al herbes, and maketh great boughes, so that the birdes of the aire may dvvel vnder the shadovv thereof.et cum seminatum fuerit, ascendit, et fit majus omnibus oleribus, et facit ramos magnos, ita ut possint sub umbra ejus aves cæli habitare.

33And with many such parables, he spoke to them the word, according as they were able to hear.E spiegava loro la parola con molte di queste parabole, secondo che potevano udire:And vvith many such parables he spake to them the vvord, according as they vvere able to heare:Et talibus multis parabolis loquebatur eis verbum, prout poterant audire: 34And without parable he did not speak unto them; but apart, he explained all things to his disciples.E non parlava a loro senza parabole; ma a solo a solo il tutto sponeva a' suoi discepoli.and vvithout parable he did not speake vnto them. but apart, he explicated al things to his Disciples.sine parabola autem non loquebatur eis: seorsum autem discipulis suis disserebat omnia. 35And he saith to them that day, when evening was come: Let us pass over to the other side.E lo stesso giorno, venuta la sera, disse loro: Passiamo all'altra riva. And he saith to them in that day, vvhen euening vvas come, Let vs passe ouer to the other side. 36And sending away the multitude, they take him even as he was in the ship: and there were other ships with him.E licenziato il popolo, lo menarono, come stava nella barca: e altre barche ancora erano con esso. And dimissing the multitude, they take him so as he vvas in the boate: and there vvere other boates vvith him. 37And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that the ship was filled.E si levò gran bufera, la quale gettava le onde nella barca; dimodochè la barca si empiva. And there arose a great storme of vvinde, and the vvaues bette into the boate, so that the boate vvas filled. 38And he was in the hinder part of the ship, sleeping upon a pillow; and they awake him, and say to him: Master, doth, it not concern thee that we perish? And he vvas in the hinder part of the boate sleeping vpon a pillovv: and they raise him, and say to him, Maister, doth it not pertaine to thee that vve perish?Et erat ipse in puppi super cervical dormiens: et excitant eum, et dicunt illi: Magister, non ad te pertinet, quia perimus ? 39And rising up, he rebuked the wind, and said to the sea: Peace, be still. And the wind ceased: and there was made a great calm. And rising vp he threatened the vvinde, and said to the sea, Peace, be stil. And the vvinde ceased: and there vvas made a great calme.

40And he said to them: Why are you fearful? have you not faith yet? And they feared exceedingly: and they said one to another: Who is this (thinkest thou) that both wind and sea obey him? And he said to them, Why are you feareful? neither yet haue you faith? And they feared vvith great feare: and they said one to an other, Who is this (thinkest thou) that both vvinde and sea obey him?
