An angel reproveth Israel. They weep for their sins. After the death of Josue, they often fall, and repenting are delivered from their afflictions, but still fall worse and worse.

1And an angel of the Lord went up from Galgal to the place of weepers, and said: I made you go out of Egypt, and have brought you into the land for which I swore to your fathers: and I promised that I would not make void my covenant with you for ever:Or un angelo del Signore andò da Galgala al luogo de' piagnenti, e disse: Io vi trassi dall'Egitto, e v'introdussi nella terra promessa con giuramento a' padri vostri: vi assicurai di non rompere in eterno il patto ch'io feci con voi:AND the Angel of our Lord went vp from Galgal to the place of weepers, and said: I brought you out of Aegypt, and haue brought you into the Land, for the which I sware to your fathers: and I promised that I would not make frustrate my couenant with you for euer:Ascenditque angelus Domini de Galgalis ad Locum flentium, et ait: Eduxi vos de Ægypto, et introduxi in terram, pro qua juravi patribus vestris: et pollicitus sum ut non facerem irritum pactum meum vobiscum in sempiternum, 2On condition that you should not make a league with the inhabitants of this land, but should throw down their altars: and you would not hear my voice: why have you done this?Con questo però che voi non faceste alleanza cogli abitanti di questo paese, ma gettaste a terra i loro altari: e non avete voluto ascoltar la mia voce: perchè avete fatto questo?onlie so that you should not make a league with the inhabitantes of this Land, but should ouerthrow their altares: and you would not heare my voice: why haue you done this?ita dumtaxat ut non feriretis fœdus cum habitatoribus terræ hujus, sed aras eorum subverteretis: et noluistis audire vocem meam: cur hoc fecistis ? 3Wherefore I would not destroy them from before your face; that you may have enemies, and their gods may be your ruin. For the which cause I would not destroy them from before your face: that you may haue enemies, and their goddes may be a ruine vnto you. 4And when the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the children of Israel: they lifted up their voice, and wept.E nel tempo, in cui l'Angelo del Signore diceva queste parole a tutti i figliuoli d'Israele, eglino alzaron le strida, e piansero. And when the Angel of our Lord spake these wordes to al the children of Israel: they lifted vp their voice, and wept.Cumque loqueretur angelus Domini hæc verba ad omnes filios Israël, elevaverunt ipsi vocem suam, et fleverunt.

5And the name of that place was called, The place of weepers, or of tears: and there they offered sacrifices to the Lord. And the name of that place was called, the place of weepers, or of teares: and there they immolated hostes to our Lord.Et vocatum est nomen loci illius, Locus flentium, sive lacrimarum: immolaveruntque ibi hostias Domini. 6And Josue sent away the people, and the children of Israel went every one to his own possession to hold it:Or Giosuè licenziò il popolo, e se n'andarono i figliuoli d'Israele ciascuno alle possessioni toccate loro in sorte per occuparle.Iosue therfore dismissed the people, and the children of Israel went euerie one into his possession, to obtayne it:Dimisit ergo Josue populum, et abierunt filii Israël unusquisque in possessionem suam, ut obtinerent eam: 7And they served the Lord all his days, and the days of the ancients, that lived a long time after him, and who knew all the works of the Lord, which he had done for Israel.E servirono al Signore per tutto il tempo che durò egli, e i seniori, i quali vissero lungamente dopo di lui, e sapevano tutte le opere che avea fatte il Signore a favor d'Israele.and they serued our Lord al his daies, and the daies of the ancientes, of them that liued a long time after him, and knew al the workes of our Lord, which he had done with Israel.servieruntque Domino cunctis diebus ejus, et seniorum, qui longo post eum vixerunt tempore, et noverant omnia opera Domini quæ fecerat cum Israël. 8And Josue, the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being a hundred and ten years old;E Giosuè figliuolo di Nun, servo di Dio, si morì in età di cento dieci anni. And Iosue the sonne of Nun, the seruant of our Lord, died, being a hundred and ten yeares old,Mortuus est autem Josue filius Nun, famulus Domini, centum et decem annorum, 9And they buried him in the borders of his possession in Thamnathsare, in Mount Ephraim, on the north side of Mount Gaas.E lo seppellirono a' confini del suo retaggio in Thamnathsare sul monte Ephraim verso la parte settentrionale del monte Gaas.and they buried him in the borders of his possession in Thamnathsare in the mount of Ephraim, on the North side of mount Gaas.et sepelierunt eum in finibus possessionis suæ in Thamnathsare in monte Ephraim, a septentrionali plaga montis Gaas. 10And all that generation was gathered to their fathers: and there arose others that knew not the Lord and the works which he had done for Israel.E tutta quella generazione si riunì co' padri suoi, e altri succedettero, i quali non conoscevano il Signore, nè le opere che egli avea fatte a favor d'Israele. And al that generation was gathered to to their fathers: and there rose others, that knew not our Lord, and the workes which he had done with Israel.

11And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they served Baalim,E i figliuoli d'Israele fecero il male al cospetto del Signore, e servirono a Baal. And the children of Israel did euil in the sight of our Lord, and serued Baalim.Feceruntque filii Israël malum in conspectu Domini, et servierunt Baalim. 12And they left the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt: and they followed strange gods, and the gods of the people that dwelt round about them, and they adored them: and they provoked the Lord to anger,E rinunziarono al Signore Dio de' padri loro, che gli avea tratti dalla terra di Egitto, e servirono gli dei stranieri, gli dei de' popoli circonvicini, e gli adorarono: e provocarono ad ira il Signore,And they left our Lord the God of their fathers, that had brought them out of the Land of Aegypt: and folowed strange goddes, and the goddes of the peoples, that dwelt round about them, and adored them: and they prouoked our Lord to anger,Ac dimiserunt Dominum Deum patrum suorum, qui eduxerat eos de terra Ægypti, et secuti sunt deos alienos, deosque populorum, qui habitabant in circuitu eorum, et adoraverunt eos: et ad iracundiam concitaverunt Dominum, 13Forsaking him, and serving Baal and AstarothRinunziando a lui per servire a Baal, e ad Astaroth.leauing him, and seruing Baal and Astaroth.dimittentes eum, et servientes Baal et Astaroth. 14And the Lord being angry against Israel, delivered them into the hands of plunderers: who took them and sold them to their enemies, that dwelt round about: neither could they stand against their enemies:E il Signore sdegnato contro Israele gli diede in potere di coloro che li predavano: e questi li presero, e li venderono a' nemici che abitavano all'intorno, ed essi non poterono più far fronte a' loro avversarii:And our Lord being wrath against Israel, deliuered them into the handes of ransackers: who tooke them and sold them to the enemies, that dwelt round about: neither could they resist their aduersaries:Iratusque Dominus contra Israël, tradidit eos in manus diripientium: qui ceperunt eos, et vendiderunt hostibus qui habitabant per gyrum: nec potuerunt resistere adversariis suis, 15But whithersoever they meant to go, the hand of the Lord was upon them, as he had said, and as he had sworn to them: and they were greatly distressed.Ma dovunque volessero andare, la mano del Signore era sopra di essi, come egli avea detto, e giurato: e gli afflisse oltre modo.but whither soeuer they had meant to goe, the hand of our Lord was vpon them, as he spake, and sware to them: and they were vehemently afflicted.sed quocumque pergere voluissent, manus Domini super eos erat, sicut locutus est, et juravit eis, et vehementer afflicti sunt.

16And the Lord raised up judges, to deliver them from the hands of those that oppressed them: but they would not hearken to them,Ma il Signore suscitò de' giudici, i quali gli liberassero dalle mani degli oppressori; ma nemmen vollero ascoltarli:And our Lord raysed vp Iudges, that should deliuer them from the handes of the wasters: but neither would they heare them,Suscitavitque Dominus judices, qui liberarent eos de vastantium manibus: sed nec eos audire voluerunt, 17Committing fornication with strange gods, and adoring them. They quickly forsook the way, in which their fathers had walked: and hearing the commandments of the Lord, they did all things contrary. They did quickly forsake the way, in the which their fathers had gone: and hearing the commandementes of our Lord, they did al thinges contrarie.fornicantes cum diis alienis, et adorantes eos. 18And when the Lord raised them up judges, in their days, he was moved to mercy, and heard the groanings of the afflicted, and delivered them from the slaughter of the oppressors.E mentre il Signore suscitava de' giudici, mentre questi viveano, si lasciava piegare a misericordia, e udiva i gemiti degli afflitti, e li liberava dalle crudeltà degli oppressori. And when our Lord raysed vp Iudges, in their daies he was moued with mercie, and heard the groninges of the afflicted, and deliuered them from the slaughter of the wasters. 19But after the judge was dead, they returned, and did much worse things than their fathers had done, following strange gods, serving them, and adoring them. They left not their own inventions, and the stubborn way, by which they were accustomed to walk. But after the Iudge was dead, they returned, and did much worse things then their fathers had done, folowing strange goddes seruing them, and adoring them. They left not their inuentions, and the verie hard way, by which they were accustomed to walke.

20And the wrath of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he said: Behold this nation hath made void my covenant, which I had made with their fathers, and hath despised to hearken to my voice:E il furor del Signore si accese contro Israele, ed egli disse: Perchè questa nazione ha violato il patto fermato da me co' padri loro, e ha ricusato di ascoltar la mia voce:And the furie of our Lord was angrie against Israel, & said: Because this nation hath made my couenāt frustrate, which I had made with their fathers, & hath cō temned my voice:Iratusque est furor Domini in Israël, et ait: Quia irritum fecit gens ista pactum meum, quod pepigeram cum patribus eorum, et vocem meam audire contempsit: 21I also will not destroy the nations which Josue left when he died:Io pure non distruggerò le nazioni, le quali Giosuè in morendo lasciò:I also wil not destroy the nations which Iosue did let alone, and died:et ego non delebo gentes, quas dimisit Josue, et mortuus est: 22That through them I may try Israel, whether they will keep the way of the Lord, and walk in it, as their fathers kept it, or not.Affin di far prova per mezzo di queste, se Israele seguiti, o no, la via del Signore, e per essa cammini, come la seguitarono i padri loro.that in them I may trie Israel, whether they wil keepe the way of the Lord, and walke in it, as their fathers kept it, or no.ut in ipsis experiar Israël, utrum custodiant viam Domini, et ambulent in ea, sicut custodierunt patres eorum, an non. 23The Lord therefore left all these nations, and would not quickly destroy them, neither did he deliver them into the hands of Josue. Our Lord therfore left al these nations, and would not quickly ouerthrow them, neither deliuered them into the handes of Iosue.Dimisit ergo Dominus omnes nationes has, et cito subvertere noluit, nec tradidit in manus Josue.
