1There was a man in the land of Hus, whose name was Job, and that man was simple and upright, and fearing God, and avoiding evil. THERE was a man in the Land of Hus, named Iob, & that man was simple, & right, and fearing God, and departing from euil. 2And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters.Ed egli ebbe sette figliuoli, e tre figliuole. And there were borne to him seuen sonnes and three daughters. 3And his possession was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a family exceedingly great: and this man was great among all the people of the east.E possedeva sette mila pecore, e tre mila cammelli, e cinquecento paia di bovi, e cinquecento asine, e gran numero di servi: e quest'uomo era grande tra gli Orientali. And his possession was seuen thousand sheepe, and three thousand camels, also fiue hundred yoke of oxen and fiue hundred she asses, and a familie exceding great: and that man was great among al them of the East. 4And his sons went, and made a feast by houses, every one in his day. And sending, they called their three sisters, to eat and drink with them.E i suoi figliuoli andavan facendo de' conviti nelle case loro, ciascuno nel suo giorno, e mandavano a invitare le tre loro sorelle a mangiare, e bere con essi. And his sonnes went, and made a feast by houses, euerie one in his day. And sending they called their three sisters, to eate and drinke with them. 5And when the days of their feasting were gone about, Job sent to them, and sanctified them: and rising up early, offered holocausts for every one of them. For he said: Lest perhaps my sons have sinned, and have blessed God in their hearts. So did Job all days.E quando era finito il giro dei giorni di convito Giobbe mandava a chiamarli, e li purificava, e alzatosi innanzi giorno offeriva olocausti per ciascuno di essi: perocché diceva: Chi sa, che i miei figliuoli non abbian fatto del male, e non abbiano disgustato Dio ne' loro cuori? Così faceva Giobbe ogni giorno. And when the dayes of feasting had passed about in course, Iob sent to them, and sanctified them: and rising vp early offered holocaustes for euerie one. For he sayd: Lest perhaps my sonnes haue sinned, and haue blessed God in their hartes. So did Iob al the dayes. Sic faciebat Job cunctis diebus.

6Now on a certain day, when the sons of God came to stand before the Lord, Satan also was present among them. But on a certaine day when the sonnes of God were come to assist before our Lord Satan also was present amongst themQuadam autem die, cum venissent filii Dei ut assisterent coram Domino, affuit inter eos etiam Satan. 7And the Lord said to him: Whence comest thou? And he answered and said: I have gone round about the earth, and walked through it.E il Signore disse a lui: Donde vieni? To whom our Lord sayd: From whence comest thou? Who answering, sayd: I haue gone round about the earth, and walked through it.Cui dixit Dominus: Unde venis ? 8And the Lord said to him: Hast thou considered my servant, Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a simple and upright man, and fearing God, and avoiding evil?E il Signore gli disse: Hai tu posto mente al mio servo Giobbe, com' ei non ha sulla terra chi lo somigli, uomo semplice, e retto, e timorato di Dio, e alieno dal far male? And our Lord sayd to him: Hast thou considered my seruant Iob, that there is not the like to him in the earth, a man simple, and right and fearing God, and departing from euil.?Dixitque Dominus ad eum: Numquid considerasti servum meum Job, quod non sit ei similis in terra, homo simplex et rectus, ac timens Deum, et recedens a malo ? 9And Satan answering, said: Doth Job fear God in vain? To whom Satan answering, said: Why, doth Iob feare God in vayne?Cui respondens Satan, ait: Numquid Job frustra timet Deum ? 10Hast thou not made a fence for him, and his house, and all his substance round about, blessed the works of his hands, and his possession hath increased on the earth? Hai benedette le fatiche delle sue mani, e i suoi beni si sono moltiplicati sulla terra.hast not thou fensed him, and his house, and al his substance round about, blessed the workes of his handes, and his possession hath increased on the earth?nonne tu vallasti eum, ac domum ejus, universamque substantiam per circuitum; operibus manuum ejus benedixisti, et possessio ejus crevit in terra ? 11But stretch forth thy hand a little, and touch all that he hath, and see if he bless thee not to thy face. But stretch forth thy hand a little, and touch al thinges that he possesseth, vnlesse he blessethee in the facesed extende paululum manum tuam et tange cuncta quæ possidet, nisi in faciem benedixerit tibi.

12Then the Lord said to Satan: Behold, all that he hath is in thy hand: only put not forth thy hand upon his person. And Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord. Our Lord therfore sayd to Satan: behold, al things that he hath, are in thy hand, onlie vpon him extend not thy hand. And Satan went forth from the face of our Lord.Dixit ergo Dominus ad Satan: Ecce universa quæ habet in manu tua sunt: tantum in eum ne extendas manum tuam. Egressusque est Satan a facie Domini. 13Now upon a certain day, when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine, in the house of their eldest brother,Or mentre un giorno i figliuoli di lui, e le figliuole mangiavano, e beveano del vino in casa del fratello loro primo genito,And when vpon a certeine day his sonnes and daughters did eate, and drinke wyne in the house of their eldest brother,Cum autem quadam die filii et filiæ ejus comederent et biberent vinum in domo fratris sui primogeniti, 14There came a messenger to Job, and said: The oxen were ploughing, and the asses feeding beside them,Venne un messo a Giobbe per dirgli: I buoi aravano, e le asine pascevano vicino a quelli, there came a messenger to Iob, which sayd: The oxen plowghed, and the she asses fed beside them, nuntius venit ad Job, qui diceret: Boves arabant, et asinæ pascebantur juxta eos: 15And the Sabeans rushed in, and took all away, and slew the servants with the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell thee.I Sabei hanno fatta una scorreria, e han portato via ogni cosa, e hanno uccisi di spada i servi, e io solo ho avuto scampo per recarti questa nuova.and the Sabeians came in violently, & haue taken al things, and haue stroken the seruantes with the sword, and I onlie haue escaped to tel thee.et irruerunt Sabæi, tuleruntque omnia, et pueros percusserunt gladio: et evasi ego solus, ut nuntiarem tibi. 16And while he was yet speaking, another came, and said: The fire of God fell from heaven, and striking the sheep and the servants, hath consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell thee.E prima che questi avesse finito di dire, venne un altro, e disse: Un fuoco grande è caduto dal cielo, e ha percosse, e consunte le pecore, e i servi e mi son salvato io solo per recarti tal nuova. And when he yet spake, an other came, and sayd: The fire of God fel from heauen, and striking the sheepe and the seruantes hath consumed them, and I only haue escaped to tel thee.

17And while he also was yet speaking, there came another, and said: The Chaldeans made three troops, and have fallen upon the camels, and taken them; moreover, they have slain the servants with the sword: and I alone have escaped to tell thee.E mentre anche questi parlava, sopraggiunse un altro, e disse: I Caldei divisi in tre squadre hanno predati, e menati via i cammelli, e uccisi i servi a mano armata, e son fuggito io solo per recarti questa nuova. But whiles he also was yet speaking, there came an other and said: The Chaldees made three troupes, and haue inuaded the camels, and taken them, moreouer the seruantes also they haue strooken with the sword, and I alone am fled to tel thee. 18He was yet speaking, and behold another came in, and said: Thy sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their eldest brother,Questi non finì di dire, che venne un altro, e disse: Mentre i tuoi figliuoli, e le figliuole mangiavano, e beveano il vino in casa del loro fratello primogenito,He yet spake, and behold an other came in, and said: Thy sonnes and daughters eating and drinking wine in the house of their eldest brother,Adhuc loquebatur ille, et ecce alius intravit, et dixit: Filiis tuis et filiabus vescentibus et bibentibus vinum in domo fratris sui primogeniti, 19A violent wind came on a sudden from the side of the desert, and shook the four corners of the house, and it fell upon thy children, and they are dead: and I alone have escaped to tell thee.Si è levato ad un tratto un vento impetuoso dalla parte del deserto, e ha scossi i quattro angoli della casa, e questa è caduta, ed ha oppressi i tuoi figliuoli, e sono morti, e sol'io sono scappato per recarti tal nuova.sodenly a vehement winde came violently from the countrie of the desert, and shooke the foure corners of the house, which falling oppressed thy children and they are dead, and I alone haue escaped to tel thee.repente ventus vehemens irruit a regione deserti, et concussit quatuor angulos domus: quæ corruens oppressit liberos tuos, et mortui sunt: et effugi ego solus, ut nuntiarem tibi. 20Then Job rose up, and rent his garments, and having shaven his head, fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,Allora Giobbe si alzò, e stracciò le sue vesti, e tosatosi il capo si prostrò per terra, e adorò Dio,Then Iob rose vp, and rent his garmentes, and with powled head falling on the ground, adored,Tunc surrexit Job, et scidit vestimenta sua: et tonso capite corruens in terram, adoravit, 21And said: Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away: as it hath pleased the Lord, so is it done: blessed be the name of the Lord.E disse: Ignudo uscii dal seno di mia madre, e ignudo tornerò laggiù. Il Signore avea dato, il Signore ha ritolto; è stato quello, che è piaciuto al Signore: il nome del Signore sia benedetto.and said Naked came I out of my mothers wombe, and naked shal I returne thither: Our Lord gaue, and our Lord hath taken away: as it hath pleased our Lord, so is it done: the name of our Lord be blessed.et dixit: Nudus egressus sum de utero matris meæ, et nudus revertar illuc.

22In all these things Job sinned not by his lips, nor spoke he any foolish thing against God.A tutte queste cose Giobbe non peccò colle sue labbra, e non disse parola men sana contro il Signore. In al these thinges Iob sinned not with his lippes, neither spake he anie foolish thing against God.In omnibus his non peccavit Job labiis suis, neque stultum quid contra Deum locutus est.
