1For behold the sovereign Lord of hosts shall take away from Jerusalem, and from Juda the valiant and the strong, the whole strength of bread, and the whole strength of water.Imperocché ecco, che il dominatore Signore degli eserciti torrà a Gerusalemme, ed a Giuda i robusti, e i forti, tutto il sostentamento del pane, tutto il sostentamento dell'acqua.FOR behold the dominatour the Lord of hostes shal take away from Ierusalem, and from Iuda the valiant and the strong, al strength of bread, and al strength of water.Ecce enim Dominator, Dominus exercituum, / auferet a Jerusalem et a Juda / validum et fortem, / omne robur panis, et omne robor aquæ; 2The strong man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet and the cunning man, and the ancient.I forti, e gli uomini battaglieri, il giudice, e il profeta, e l'indovino, e il seniore.The strong, and the man of warre, the iudge, and the prophete, and southsayer, and the ancient.fortem, et virum bellatorem, / judicem, et prophetam, et ariolum, et senem; 3The captain over fifty, and the honourable in countenance, and the counsellor, and the architect, and the skilful in eloquent speech. The prince ouer fiftie, and the honorable of countenance, and the counseler, and the wise of workemasters, and the skilful of mystical speach.principem super quinquaginta, et honorabilem vultu et consiliarium, / et sapientem de architectis, et prudentem eloquii mystici. 4And I will give children to be their princes, and the effeminate shall rule over them.E darò loro per principi dei ragazzi, e saran dominati da uomini effeminati.And I wil geue children to be their princes, and the effeminate shal rule ouer them.Et dabo pueros principes eorum, / et effeminati dominabuntur eis; 5And the people shall rush one upon another, and every man against his neighbour: the child shall make a tumult against the ancient, and the base against the honourable. And the people shal rush violently, man against man, and euerie one against his neighbour: the childe shal make tumult against the ancient, and the base against the noble.et irruet populus, vir ad virum, / et unusquisque ad proximum suum; / tumultuabitur puer contra senem, / et ignobilis contra nobilem.

6For a man shall take hold of his brother, one of the house of his father, saying: Thou hast a garment, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand. For a man shal take hold of his brother, one of the house of his father: Thou hast a garment, be thou our prince, and let this ruine be vnder thy hand. 7In that day he shall answer, saying: I am no healer, and in my house there is no bread, nor clothing: make me not ruler of the people. He shal answer in that day, saying: I am no physicion, & in my house there is no bread, nor garment: do not appoint me prince of the people. 8For Jerusalem is ruined, and Juda is fallen: because their tongue, and their devices are against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his majesty. For Ierusalem is gone to ruine, and Iuda is fallen: because their tongue, & their inuentions were against our Lord, to prouoke the eyes of his maiestie. 9The shew of their countenance hath answered them: and they have proclaimed abroad their sin as Sodom, and they have not hid it: woe to their souls, for evils are rendered to them. The knowlege of their face hath answered them: and they haue proclaimed their sinne as Sodom, neither haue they hid it: woe to their soule, because euils are rendered to them. / Væ animæ eorum, quoniam reddita sunt eis mala ! 10Say to the just man that it is well, for he shall eat the fruit of his doings.Dite al giusto, bene sta; perchè egli si goderà i frutti de' suoi consigli.Say to the iust that it is wel, because he shal eate the fruite of his inuentions.Dicite justo quoniam bene, / quoniam fructum adinventionum suarum comedet.

11Woe to the wicked unto evil: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.Guai all'empio malfacente; perocché saragli renduto quel, che han fatto le mani di lui.Woe to the impious vnto euil: for the reward of his handes shal be made to him.Væ impio in malum ! / retributio enim manuum ejus fiet ei. 12As for my people, their oppressors have stripped them, and women have ruled over them. O my people, they that call thee blessed, the same deceive thee, and destroy the way of thy steps.Il popolo mio è spogliato da' suoi esattori, ed è signoreggiato da donne. Popolo mio, quei, che te dicon beato, t'ingannano, e guastano la strada, che tu dei battere.My people their exactours haue spoyled, & wemen haue ruled ouer them. My people, they that cal thee blessed, the same deceiue thee, and dissipate the way of thy steppes.Populum meum exactores sui spoliaverunt, / et mulieres dominatæ sunt eis. / Popule meus, qui te beatum dicunt, ipsi te decipiunt, / et viam gressuum tuorum dissipant. 13The Lord standeth up to judge, and he standeth to judge the people.Si presenta il Signore per far giudicio, e siede per far giudicio dei popoli.Our Lord standeth to iudge, and he standeth to iudge peoples.Stat ad judicandum Dominus, / et stat ad judicandos populos. 14The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and its princes: for you have devoured the vineyard, and the spoil of the poor is in your house.Verrà il Signore a far giudicio dei seniori del popol suo, e de' suoi principi; imperocché voi avete divorata la mia vigna, e in casa vostra son le rapine fatte al povero.Our Lord shal come to iudgement with the ancients of his people, and his princes: for you haue deuoured the vineyard, and the spoile of the poore is in your house.Dominus ad judicium veniet / cum senibus populi sui, et principibus ejus; / vos enim depasti estis vineam, / et rapina pauperis in domo vestra. 15Why do you consume my people, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord the God of hosts.E perchè stritolate voi il mio popolo, e pestate le facce de' poveri, dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti?Why do you consume my people, and grinde the faces of the poore, sayth our Lord the God of hostes?Quare atteritis populum meum, / et facies pauperum commolitis ? / dicit Dominus exercituum. 16And the Lord said: Because the daughters of Sion are haughty, and have walked with stretched out necks, and wanton glances of their eyes, and made a noise as they walked with their feet and moved in a set pace:E il Signore ha detto: Dappoiché le figliuole di Sion si sono inalberate, e passeggiano col collo interato, e sen vanno ammiccando co' loro occhi, e si pavoneggiano, e tripudiano andando coi loro piedi, e a passi studiati camminano;And our Lord sayd: for that the daughters of Sion are haughtie, and haue walked with stretched out necke, and went with twinglings of eies, and clapped their handes, walked on their feete, and ietted in a set pace.Et dixit Dominus: / Pro eo quod elevatæ sunt filiæ Sion, / et ambulaverunt extento collo, / et nutibus oculorum ibant, / et plaudebant, ambulabant pedibus suis, / et composito gradu incedebant;

17The Lord will make bald the crown of the head of the daughters of Sion, and the Lord will discover their hair. Our Lord shal make balde the crowne of the daughters of Sion, and our Lord shal discouer their haire.decalvabit Dominus verticem filiarum Sion, / et Dominus crimen earum nudabit. 18In that day the Lord will take away the ornaments of shoes, and little moons,In quel dì il Signore farà sparire l'ornato de' calzari, e le lunette,In that day shal our Lord take away the ornament of shoes, and litle moones.In die illa auferet Dominus ornamentum calceamentum, 19And chains and necklaces, and bracelets, and bonnets,E i vezzi di perle, e i monili, e i braccialetti, e le scuffie,And cheynes, and ouches, and bracelettes, and bonnettes.et lunulas, et torques, / et monilia, et armillas, et mitras, 20And bodkins, and ornaments of the legs, and tablets, and sweet balls, and earrings,E le corone, e le gambiere, e le catenelle, e i vasetti a odori, e gli orecchini,And the sheading combes, and sloppes, and tablettes, and sweete balles, and earlets.et discriminalia, et periscelidas, et murenulas, / et olfactoriola, et inaures, 21And rings, and jewels hanging on the forehead,E gli anelli, e le gemme pendenti sulla fronte,And ringes, and pearles hanging on the forehead.et annulos, et gemmas in fronte pendentes, 22And changes of apparel, and short cloaks, and fine linen, and crisping pins,E le mute degli abiti, e le mantellette, e i candidi veli, e gli spilloni,And changes of apparel, and shorte clokes, and the fine linen, and nedles, and loking glasses, and launes,et mutatoria, et palliola, / et linteamina, et acus, 23And lookingglasses, and lawns, and headbands, and fine veils.E gli specchi, e i lini finissimi, e le bende, e le vesti da estate;and headbands, and bonegraces.et specula, et sindones, / et vittas, et theristra. 24And instead of a sweet smell there shall be stench, and instead of a girdle, a cord, and instead of curled hair, baldness, and instead of a stomacher, haircloth.E invece di odori soavi avranno fetore, e per cintura una corda, e in cambio de' capelli arricciati avran la calvizie, e per fascia pettorale il cilizio.And for swete sauour there shal be stinke, and for a girdle a corde, and for frisled haire baldnes, and for stomacher hairecloth.

25Thy fairest men also shall fall by the sword, and thy valiant ones in battle.I più avvenenti ancora de' tuoi uomini periranno di spada, e i tuoi campioni in battaglia.Thy fayrest men also shal fal by the sworde, and thy strong ones in battle.Pulcherrimi quoque viri tui gladio cadent, / et fortes tui in prælio. 26And her gates shall lament and mourn, and she shall sit desolate on the ground.E le porte di lei saranno in tristezza, ed in lutto, ed ella desolata sarà assisa per terra.And her gates shal lament and moorne, and she shal sit desolate on the ground.
