His preaching was not in loftiness of words, but in spirit and power. And the wisdom he taught was not to be understood by the worldly wise or sensual man, but only by the spiritual man.

1And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not in loftiness of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of Christ. AND I (brethren) vvhen I came to you, I came not in loftinesse of speache or of vvisedom, preaching to you the testimonie of Christ. 2For I judged not myself to know anything among you, but Jesus Christ: and him crucified. For I iudged not my self to knovv any thing among you but IESVS Christ, and him crucified. 3And I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling. And I vvas vvith you in infirmitie, and feare and much trembling:Et ego in infirmitate, et timore, et tremore multo fui apud vos: 4And my speech and my preaching was not in the persuasive words of human wisdom, but in shewing of the Spirit and power:E il mio parlare, e la mia predicazione fu non nelle persuasive della umana sapienza, ma nella manifestazione di spirito e di virtù:and my speache and my preaching vvas not in the persuasible vvordes of humane vvisedom, but in shevving of spirit and povver:et sermo meus, et prædicatio mea non in persuasibilibus humanæ sapientiæ verbis, sed in ostensione spiritus et virtutis: 5That your faith might not stand on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.Affinchè la vostra fede non posi sopra l'umana sapienza, ma sopra la potenza di Dio.that your faith might not be in the vvisedom of men, but in the povver of God. But vve speake vvisedom among the perfect.ut fides vestra non sit in sapientia hominum, sed in virtute Dei. 6Howbeit we speak wisdom among the perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, neither of the princes of this world that come to nought.Tra i perfetti poi noi parliamo sapienza: ma sapienza non di questo secolo, né de' principi di questo secolo, i quali sono annichilati:but the vvisedom not of this vvorld, neither of the princes of this vvorld, that come to naught:Sapientiam autem loquimur inter perfectos: sapientiam vero non hujus sæculi, neque principum hujus sæculi, qui destruuntur: 7But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, a wisdom which is hidden, which God ordained before the world, unto our glory:Ma parliamo della sapienza di Dio in mistero, di quella occulta, di quella preordinata da Dio prima de' secoli per nostra gloria.but vve speake the vvisedom of God in a mysterie, which is hid, vvhich God did predestinate before the worlds, vnto our glorie:sed loquimur Dei sapientiam in mysterio, quæ abscondita est, quam prædestinavit Deus ante sæcula in gloriam nostram,

8Which none of the princes of this world knew. For if they had known it, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory.La quale da niuno de'principi di questo secolo fu conosciuta: imperocché se l'avesser conosciuta, non avrebber giammai crocifisso il Signor della gloria.which none of the princes of this vvo•ld did knovv: for if they had knovven, they vvould neuer haue crucified the Lord of glorie.quam nemo principum hujus sæculi cognovit: si enim cognovissent, numquam Dominum gloriæ crucifixissent. 9But, as it is written: That eye hath not seen, nor ear heard: neither hath it entered into the heart of man, what things God hath prepared for them that love him.Ma come sta scritto: né occhio vide, né orecchio udì, né entrò in cuor dell'uomo, quali cose ha Dio preparate per coloro, che lo amano:But as it is vvritten, That vvhich eie hath not seen, nor eare hath heard, neither hath it ascended into the hart of mā, vvhat things God hath prepared for them that loue him.Sed sicut scriptum est: Quod oculus non vidit, nec auris audivit, nec in cor hominis ascendit, quæ præparavit Deus iis qui diligunt illum: 10But to us God hath revealed them by his Spirit. For the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.A noi però le ha rilevate Dio per mezzo del suo Spirito: imperocché lo Spirito penetra tutte le cose, anche la profondità di Dio.but to vs God hath reuealed by his Spirit. For the Spirit searcheth al things, yea the profoundities of God.nobis autem revelavit Deus per Spiritum suum: Spiritus enim omnia scrutatur, etiam profunda Dei. 11For what man knoweth the things of a man, but the spirit of a man that is in him? So the things also that are of God, no man knoweth, but the Spirit of God.Imperocché chi tra gli uomini, conosce le cose dell'uomo, fuorichè lo spirito dell'uomo, che sta in lui? Così pure le cose di Dio niuno le conosce, fuorichè lo spirito di Dio.For vvhat man knovveth the things of a man, but • the spirit of a man that is in him? so the things also that are of God no man knovveth, but the spirit of God.Quis enim hominum scit quæ sunt hominis, nisi spiritus hominis, qui in ipso est ? ita et quæ Dei sunt, nemo cognovit, nisi Spiritus Dei. 12Now, we have received not the spirit of this world, but the Spirit that is of God: that we may know the things that are given us from God.Noi però abbiam ricevuto non lo spirito di questo mondo, ma lo spirito, che è da Dio; affinchè conosciamo le cose, che sono state da Dio donate a noi:And vve haue receiued not the spirit of this vvorld, but the spirit that is of God: • that vve may knovv the things that of God are giuen to vs.Nos autem non spiritum hujus mundi accepimus, sed Spiritum qui ex Deo est, ut sciamus quæ a Deo donata sunt nobis:

13Which things also we speak: not in the learned words of human wisdom, but in the doctrine of the Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.Delle quali pur discorriamo non coi dotti sermoni dell'umana sapienza, ma colla dottrina dello Spirito, adattando cose spirituali a cose spirituali.vvhich also vve speake not in learned vvordes of humane vvisedom: but in the doctrine of the Spirit, comparing spiritual things to the spiritual.quæ et loquimur non in doctis humanæ sapientiæ verbis, sed in doctrina Spiritus, spiritualibus spiritualia comparantes. 14But the sensual man perceiveth not these things that are of the Spirit of God. For it is foolishness to him: and he cannot understand, because it is spiritually examined. But • the sensual man perceiueth not those things that are of the spirit of God. for it is folishnes to him, and he can not vnderstand: because he is spiritually examined. 15But the spiritual man judgeth all things: and he himself is judged of no man. But the spiritual man iudgeth al things: and him self is iudged of no man.Spiritualis autem judicat omnia: et ipse a nemine judicatur. 16For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. For vvho hath knovven the sense of our Lord that may instructe him? But vve haue the sense of Christ.
