1I say then: Hath God cast away his people? God forbid! For I also am an Israelite of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. I Say then: Hath god reiected his people? God forbid for I also am an Israëlite, of the seede of Abraham, of the tribe of Ben-iamin.Dico ergo: Numquid Deus repulit populum suum ? Absit. Nam et ego Israëlita sum ex semine Abraham, de tribu Benjamin: 2God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Know you not what the scripture saith of Elias, how he calleth on God against Israel? God hath not reiected his people vvhich he foreknevve. Or knovv you not in Elias vvhat the Scripture saith: hovv he requesteth God against Israël?non repulit Deus plebem suam, quam præscivit. An nescitis in Elia quid dicit Scriptura ? quemadmodum interpellat Deum adversum Israël: 3Lord, they have slain thy prophets, they have dug down thy altars. And I am left alone: and they seek my life.Signore, hanno uccisi i tuoi Profeti, han rovinati i tuoi altari: e io son rimasto solo, e vogliono la mia vita.Lord, they haue slaine thy Prophets, they haue digged dovvne thine altares: and I am left alone, and they seeke my life.Domine, prophetas tuos occiderunt, altaria tua suffoderunt: et ego relictus sum solus, et quærunt animam meam. 4But what saith the divine answer to him? I have left me seven thousand men that have not bowed their knees to Baal. But vvhat saith the diuine ansvver vnto him? I haue left me seuen thousand men, that haue not borred their knees to Baal? 5Even so then, at this present time also, there is a remnant saved according to the election of grace. So therfore at this time also, there are remaines saued according to the election of grace. 6And if by grace, it is not now by works: otherwise grace is no more grace.E se per grazia, dunque non per le opere: altrimenti la grazia non è più grazia. And if by grace: not novv of vvorkes. othervvise grace novv is not grace.

7What then? That which Israel sought, he hath not obtained: but the election hath obtained it. And the rest have been blinded.E che adunque? Israele non ha conseguito quel, che cercava: lo hanno conseguito gli eletti: tutti gli altri poi si sono accecati:Vvhat then? that vvhich Israel sought, the same he hath not obtained: but the election hath obtained: and the rest vvere blinded.Quid ergo ? Quod quærebat Israël, hoc non est consecutus: electio autem consecuta est: ceteri vero excæcati sunt: 8As it is written: God hath given them the spirit of insensibility; eyes that they should not see and ears that they should not hear, until this present day.Come sta scritto: Dio diede loro lo spirito di stupidità: occhi, perché non veggano, e orecchi, perché non odano fino al giorno d'oggi.as it is vvritten: God hath giuen them the spirit of compunction: eies, that they may not see: and eares, that they may not heare: vntil this present day.sicut scriptum est: Dedit illis Deus spiritum compunctionis: oculos ut non videant, et aures ut non audiant, usque in hodiernum diem. 9And David saith: Let their table be made a snare and a trap and a stumbling block and a recompense unto them.E Davidde dice: La loro mensa diventi per essi un lacciuolo, e un cappio, e un inciampo, e ciò per giusta loro punizione. And Dauid saith: Be their table made for a snare and for a trappe and for a scandal and for a retribution vnto them.Et David dicit: Fiat mensa eorum in laqueum, et in captionem, et in scandalum, et in retributionem illis. 10Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see: and bow down their back always. Be their eies darkened, that they may not see: and their backe make thou alvvaies crooked. 11I say then: Have they so stumbled, that they should fall? God forbid! But by their offence salvation is come to the Gentiles, that they may be emulous of them. I say them, haue they so stombled, that they should fall? God forbid. but by their offence, saluation is to the Gentils, that they may emulate them.Dico ergo: Numquid sic offenderunt ut caderent ? Absit. 12Now if the offence of them be the riches of the world and the diminution of them the riches of the Gentiles: how much more the fulness of them? And if the offence of them be the riches of the vvorld, and the diminution of them the riches of the Gentils: hovv much more the fulnesse of them?

13For I say to you, Gentiles: As long indeed as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I will honour my ministry,Imperocché a voi, Gentili, io dico: in quanto io sono Apostolo delle genti, farò onore al mio ministero,For to you Gentils I say, as long verely as I am the Apostle of the Gentils, I vvil honour my ministerie,Vobis enim dico gentibus: Quamdiu quidem ego sum gentium Apostolus, ministerium meum honorificabo, 14If, by any means, I may provoke to emulation them who are my flesh and may save some of them.Se mai provocassi ad emulazione il mio sangue, e salvassi alcuni di loro.if by any meanes I may prouoke my flesh to emulation, and may saue some of them.si quomodo ad æmulandum provocem carnem meam, et salvos faciam aliquos ex illis. 15For if the loss of them be the reconciliation of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? For if the losse of them be the reconciliation of the vvorld: vvhat shal the receiuing be, but life from the dead?Si enim amissio eorum, reconciliatio est mundi: quæ assumptio, nisi vita ex mortuis ? 16For if the firstfruit be holy, so is the lump also: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. And if the first fruite be holy, the masse also: and if the roote be holy, the boughes also. 17And if some of the branches be broken and thou, being a wild olive, art ingrafted in them and art made partaker of the root and of the fatness of the olive tree:Che se alcuni de' rami sono stati svelti, e tu essendo un ulivo selvatico, se' stato in loro luogo innestato, e fatto consorte della radice, e del grasso dell'olivo,And if some of the boughes be broken, and thou vvhereas thou vvast a vvilde oliue, art graffed in them, and art made partaker of the roote and of the fatnesse of the oliue,Quod si aliqui ex ramis fracti sunt, tu autem cum oleaster esses, insertus es in illis, et socius radicis, et pinguedinis olivæ factus es, 18Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root: but the root thee.Non voler vantarti contro a rami. Che se ti vanti: tu non porti già la radice, ma la radice porta te.glorie not against the boughes. And if thou glorie: not thou bearest the roote, but the roote thee.noli gloriari adversus ramos.

19Thou wilt say then: The branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.Dirai però: que' rami furono svelti, perché io fossi innestato.Thou saiest then: The boughes vvere broken, that I might be graffed in.Dices ergo: Fracti sunt rami ut ego inserar. 20Well: because of unbelief they were broken off. But thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear. Vvel: because of incredulitie they vvere broken, but thou by faith doest stand: be not to highly vvise, but feare.Bene: propter incredulitatem fracti sunt. Tu autem fide stas: noli altum sapere, sed time. 21For if God hath not spared the natural branches, fear lest perhaps also he spare not thee.Imperocché se Dio non perdonò ai rami naturali: non perdonerà neppure a te.For if God hath not spared the natural boughes: lest perhaps he vvil not spare thee neither. 22See then the goodness and the severity of God: towards them indeed that are fallen, the severity; but towards thee, the goodness of God, if thou abide in goodness. Otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.Osserva adunque la bontà, e la severità di Dio: la severità verso dì quelli, che caddero: la bontà di Dio verso di te, se ti atterrai alla bontà, altrimenti sarai reciso anche tu.See then the goodnes and the seueritie of God: vpō them surely that are fallen, the seueritie: but vpon thee the goodnes of God, if thou abide in his goodnesse, othervvise thou also shalt be cut of.Vide ergo bonitatem, et severitatem Dei: in eos quidem qui ceciderunt, severitatem: in te autem bonitatem Dei, si permanseris in bonitate, alioquin et tu excideris. 23And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again. But they also, if they do not abide in incredulitie, shal be graffed in. for God is able to graffe them in againe,Sed et illi, si non permanserint in incredulitate, inserentur: potens est enim Deus iterum inserere illos. 24For if thou wert cut out of the wild olive tree, which is natural to thee; and, contrary to nature, wert grafted into the good olive tree: how much more shall they that are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree? For if thou vvast cut out of the natural vvild oliue, and contrarie to nature vvast graffed into the good oliue: hovv much more they that are according to nature, shal be graffed into their ovvne oliue?

25For I would not have you ignorant, brethren, of this mystery (lest you should be wise in your own conceits) that blindness in part has happened in Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles should come in.Imperocché non voglio, che siavi ignoto, o fratelli, questo mistero (affinchè dentro di voi non vi giudichiate sapienti), che l'induramento è avvenuto in una parte ad Israele, perfino a tanto che sia entrata la pienezza delle genti,For I vvil not haue you ignorant, brethren, of this mysterie (that you be not vvise in your selues) that blindnes in part hath chaunced in Israël, vntil the fulnes of the Gentiles might enter:Nolo enim vos ignorare, fratres, mysterium hoc (ut non sitis vobis ipsis sapientes), quia cæcitas ex parte contigit in Israël, donec plenitudo gentium intraret, 26And so all Israel should be saved, as it is written: There shall come out of Sion, he that shall deliver and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob.E così si salvi tutto Israele, conforme sta scritto: Verrà di Sion il liberatore, e scaccerà la empietà da Giacobbe.and also al Israël might be saued, as it is vvritten: There shal come out of Sion, he that shal deliuer, and shal auert impietie from Iacob.et sic omnis Israël salvus fieret, sicut scriptum est: Veniet ex Sion, qui eripiat, et avertat impietatem a Jacob. 27And this is to them my covenant: when I shall take away their sins.E avranno essi da me questa alleanza, quando avrò tolti via i loro peccati. And this to them the testament from me: vvhen I shal haue taken avvay their sinnes.Et hoc illis a me testamentum: cum abstulero peccata eorum. 28As concerning the gospel, indeed, they are enemies for your sake: but as touching the election, they are most dear for the sake of the fathers. According to the Gospel in deede enemies for you: but according to the election, most deere for the fathers.Secundum Evangelium quidem, inimici propter vos: secundum electionem autem, carissimi propter patres. 29For the gifts and the calling of God are without repentance.Conciossiaché i doni, e la vocazione di Dio non soggiacciono a pentimento.for vvithout repentance are the giftes and the vocation of God.Sine pœnitentia enim sunt dona et vocatio Dei. 30For as you also in times past did not believe God, but now have obtained mercy, through their unbelief:Imperocché siccome anche voi una volta non credeste a Dio, e ora con seguito avete misericordia per la loro incredulità:for as you also sometime did not beleeue God, but novv haue obteined mercie because of their incredulitie:Sicut enim aliquando et vos non credidistis Deo, nunc autem misericordiam consecuti estis propter incredulitatem illorum:

31So these also now have not believed, for your mercy, that they also may obtain mercy.Così anch'essi adesso non han creduto, affinché per la misericordia fatta a voi conseguivano anch'essi misericordia.so these also novv haue not beleeued, for your mercie, that they also may obteine mercie.ita et isti nunc non crediderunt in vestram misericordiam: ut et ipsi misericordiam consequantur. 32For God hath concluded all in unbelief, that he may have mercy on all. For God hath cōcluded al into incredulitie, that he may haue mercie on al.Conclusit enim Deus omnia in incredulitate, ut omnium misereatur. 33O the depth of the riches of the wisdom and of the knowledge of God! How incomprehensible are his judgments, and how unsearchable his ways!O profondità delle ricchezze della sapienza, e della scienza di Dio: quanto incomprensibili sono i suoi giudizj, e imperscrutabili le sue vie!O depth of the riches of the vvisedom and of the knowledge of God: hovv incomprehensible are his iudgements, and his vvaies vnsearcheable?O altitudo divitiarum sapientiæ, et scientiæ Dei: quam incomprehensibilia sunt judicia ejus, et investigabiles viæ ejus ! 34For who hath known the mind of the Lord? Or who hath been his counsellor? O chi a lui diè consiglio?for vvho hath knovven the minde of our Lord? or vvho hath been his coūseler?Quis enim cognovit sensum Domini ? aut quis consiliarius ejus fuit ? 35Or who hath first given to him, and recompense shall be made him? Or vvho hath first giuen to him, and retribution shal be made him?aut quis prior dedit illi, et retribuetur ei ? 36For of him, and by him, and in him, are all things: to him be glory for ever. Amen. For of him, and by him, and in him are al things: to him be glorie for euer. Amen. Amen.
