1When Jesus therefore understood that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus maketh more disciples and baptizeth more than John,A quando Gesù ebbe saputo, come a' Farisei era noto, che egli faceva maggior numero di discepoli, e battezzava più di Giovanni,WHEN IESVS therfore vnderstoode that the Pharisees heard that IESVS maketh mo Disciples, and baptizeth, thē Iohn,Ut ergo cognovit Jesus quia audierunt pharisæi quod Jesus plures discipulos facit, et baptizat, quam Joannes 2(Though Jesus himself did not baptize, but his disciples),(Quantunque non Gesù stesso battezzasse, ma bensì i suoi discepoli)(hovvbeit IESVS did not baptize, but his Disciples)(quamquam Jesus non baptizaret, sed discipuli ejus), 3He left Judea and went again into Galilee.Abbandonò la Giudea, e se v'andò di nuovo nella Galilea:he left Ievvrie, and vvent againe into Galilee.reliquit Judæam, et abiit iterum in Galilæam. 4And he was of necessity to pass through Samaria.Dovea perciò passare per la Samaria.and he had of necessitie to passe through Samaria.Oportebat autem eum transire per Samariam. 5He cometh therefore to a city of Samaria, which is called Sichar, near the land which Jacob gave to his son Joseph. He commeth therfore into a citie of Samaria vvhich is called Sichar: beside the maner that Iacob gaue to Ioseph his sonne.Venit ergo in civitatem Samariæ, quæ dicitur Sichar, juxta prædium quod dedit Jacob Joseph filio suo. 6Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well. It was about the sixth hour.E quivi era il pozzo di Giacobbe. And there vvas there the fountaine of Iacob. IESVS therfore vvearied of his iourney, sate so vpon the fountaine. It vvas about the sixt houre.Erat autem ibi fons Jacob. Jesus ergo fatigatus ex itinere, sedebat sic supra fontem. Hora erat quasi sexta. 7There cometh a woman of Samaria, to draw water. Jesus saith to her: Give me to drink. There commeth a vvoman of Samaria to dravv vvater, IESVS saith to her, Giue me to drinke.Venit mulier de Samaria haurire aquam. Dicit ei Jesus: Da mihi bibere. 8For his disciples were gone into the city to buy meats.(Imperocché i suoi discepoli erano andati in città per comperar da mangiare.)For his Disciples vvere gone into the citie, to bie meates.(Discipuli enim ejus abierant in civitatem ut cibos emerent.)

9Then that Samaritan woman saith to him: How dost thou, being a Jew; ask of me to drink, who am a Samaritan woman? For the Jews do not communicate with the Samaritans. Therfore that Samaritane vvoman saith to him, Hovv doest thou being a Ievve, aske of me to drinke, vvhich am a Samaritane vvomā? For the Ievves do not communicate vvith the Samaritanes.Dicit ergo ei mulier illa Samaritana: Quomodo tu, Judæus cum sis, bibere a me poscis, quæ sum mulier Samaritana ? non enim coutuntur Judæi Samaritanis. 10Jesus answered and said to her: If thou didst know the gift of God and who he is that saith to thee: Give me to drink; thou perhaps wouldst have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.Rispose Gesù, e dissele: Se tu conoscessi il dono di Dio, e chi è colui, che ti dice: Dammi da bere: tu ne avresti forse chiesto a lui, ed egli ti avrebbe dato d'un'acqua viva.IESVS ansvvered, and said to her, If thou didst knovv the gift of God, and vvho he is that saith vnto thee, Giue me to drinke: thou perhaps vvouldest haue asked of him, and he vvould haue giuen thee liuing vvater. 11The woman saith to him: Sir, thou hast nothing wherein to draw, and the well is deep. From whence then hast thou living water? The vvoman saith to him, Sir, neither hast thou vvherein to dravv, and the vvel is deepe: vvhence hast thou the liuing vvater?Dicit ei mulier: Domine, neque in quo haurias habes, et puteus altus est: unde ergo habes aquam vivam ? 12Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank thereof, himself and his children and his cattle?Se' tu forse da più di Giacobbe nostro Padre, il quale diede a noi questo pozzo, donde bevve esso, e i suoi figliuoli, e il suo bestiame?art thou greater then our father Iacob, vvho gaue vs the vvel, and him self dranke of it, and his children, and his cattel?Numquid tu major es patre nostro Jacob, qui dedit nobis puteum, et ipse ex eo bibit, et filii ejus, et pecora ejus ? 13Jesus answered and said to her: Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: but he that shall drink of the water that I will give him shall not thirst for ever.Rispose Gesù, e disse: Tutti quelli, che bevono di quest'acqua, torneranno ad aver sete: chi poi beve di quell'acqua, che gli darò io, non avrà più sete in eterno:IESVS ansvvered, and said to her, Euery one that drinketh of this vvater, shal thirst againe: but he that shal drinke of the vvater that I vvil giue him, shal not thirst for euer,Respondit Jesus, et dixit ei: Omnis qui bibit ex aqua hac, sitiet iterum; qui autem biberit ex aqua quam ego dabo ei, non sitiet in æternum:

14But the water that I will give him shall become in him a fountain of water, springing up into life everlasting.Ma l'acqua, che io gli darò, diventerà in esso fontana di acqua, che zampillerà sino alla vita eterna.but the vvater that I vvil giue him, shal become in him a fountaine of vvater springing vp vnto life euerlasting.sed aqua quam ego dabo ei, fiet in eo fons aquæ salientis in vitam æternam. 15The woman said to him: Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come hither to draw. The vvoman saith to him, Lord giue me this vvater, that I may not thirst, nor come hither to dravv. 16Jesus saith to her: Go, call thy husband, and come hither.Le disse Gesù: Va', chiama tuo marito, e ritorna qua.IESVS saith to her, Goe, call thy husband, and come hither. 17The woman answered and said: I have no husband. Jesus said to her: Thou hast said well: I have no husband.Risposegli la donna, e disse: Non ho marito. E Gesù le rispose: Hai detto bene, non ho marito:The vvoman ansvvered and said, I haue no husband. IESVS saith to her, Thou hast said vvel, that I haue no husband.Respondit mulier, et dixit: Non habeo virum. Dicit ei Jesus: Bene dixisti, quia non habeo virum; 18For thou hast had five husbands: and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband. This, thou hast said truly. For thou hast had fiue husbands: and he vvhom thou novv hast, is not thy husband. this thou hast said truely.quinque enim viros habuisti, et nunc, quem habes, non est tuus vir: hoc vere dixisti. 19The woman saith to him: Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. The vvoman saith to him, Lord, I perceiue that thou art a Prophet.Dicit ei mulier: Domine, video quia propheta es tu. 20Our fathers adored on this mountain: and you say that at Jerusalem is the place where men must adore.I nostri Padri hanno adorato (Dio) su questo monte, e voi dite, che il luogo, dove bisogna adorarlo, è in Gerusalemme. Our fathers adored in this mountaine, and you say, that at Hierusalem is the place vvhere men must adore. 21Jesus saith to her: Woman, believe me that the hour cometh, when you shall neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, adore the Father.Gesù le rispose: Credimi, o donna, che è venuto il tempo, in cui né su questo monte, nè in Gerusalemme adorerete il Padre.IESVS' saith to her, Vvoman beleeue me, that the houre shal come, vvhen you shal neither in this mountaine, nor in Hierusalem adore the Father.

22You adore that which you know not: we adore that which we know. For salvation is of the Jews. You adore that you knovv not: vve adore that vve knovv, for saluation is of the Ievves. 23But the hour cometh and now is, when the true adorers shall adore the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father also seeketh such to adore him. But the houre commeth, and novv it is, vvhen the true adorers shal adore the Father in spirit and veritie. for the Father also seeketh such, to adore him. 24God is a spirit: and they that adore him must adore him in spirit and in truth. God is a spirit, and they that adore him, must adore in spirit and veritie. 25The woman saith to him: I know that the Messias cometh (who is called Christ): therefore, when he is come, he will tell us all things. The vvoman saith to him, I knovv that MESSIAS commeth, (vvhich is called CHRIST): therfore vvhen he commeth, he vvil shevv vs al things.Dicit ei mulier: Scio quia Messias venit (qui dicitur Christus): cum ergo venerit ille, nobis annuntiabit omnia. 26Jesus saith to her: I am he, who am speaking with thee.Dissele Gesù: Son quel desso io, che teco favello.IESVS saith to her, I am he, that speake vvith thee.Dicit ei Jesus: Ego sum, qui loquor te. 27And immediately his disciples came. And they wondered that he talked with the woman. Yet no man said: What seekest thou? And incontinent his Disciples came: and they marueiled that he talked vvith a vvoman. No man for al that said, Vvhat seekest thou, or vvhy talkest thou vvith her?

28The woman therefore left her waterpot and went her way into the city and saith to the men there:Ma la donna lasciò la sua secchia, e andossene in città, e disse a quella gente:The vvoman therfore left her vvater-pot: and she vvent into the citie, and saith to those men,Reliquit ergo hydriam suam mulier, et abiit in civitatem, et dicit illis hominibus: 29Come, and see a man who has told me all things whatsoever I have done. Is not he the Christ? Come, and see a man that hath told me al things vvhatsoeuer I haue done. Is not he CHRIST?Venite, et videte hominem qui dixit mihi omnia quæcumque feci: numquid ipse est Christus ? 30They went therefore out of the city and came unto him. They vvent forth therfore out of the citie, and came to him. 31In the mean time, the disciples prayed him, saying: Rabbi, eat.E in quel frattempo lo pregavano i discepoli, e dicevangli: Maestro, prendi un po' di cibo.In the meane time the Disciples desired him, saying, Rabbi eate.Interea rogabant eum discipuli, dicentes: Rabbi, manduca. 32But he said to them: I have meat to eat which you know not. But he said to them, I haue meate to eate vvhich you knovv not.Ille autem dicit eis: Ego cibum habeo manducare, quem vos nescitis. 33The disciples therefore said one to another: Hath any man brought him to eat?I discepoli perciò si dicevano l'uno all'altro: V'egli forse stato qualcheduno, che gli abbia portato da mangiare? The Disciples therfore said one to an other, Hath any man brought him for to eate?Dicebant ergo discipuli ad invicem: Numquid aliquis attulit ei manducare ? 34Jesus saith to them: My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, that I may perfect his work. My meate is to doe the vvil of him that sent me, to perfit his vvorke. 35Do not you say: There are yet four months, and then the harvest cometh? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes, and see the countries. For they are white already to harvest. Doe not you say that yet there are foure moneths, and haruest commeth? Behold I say to you, lift vp your eies, and see the countries, that they are vvhite already to haruest.

36And he that reapeth receiveth wages and gathereth fruit unto life everlasting: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.È colui, che miete, riceve la mercede, e raguna frutto per la vita eterna: onde insieme ne goda e colui, che semina, e colui, che miete. And he that reapeth, receiueth hire, and gathereth fruite vnto life euerlasting: that both he that sovveth, and he that reapeth, may reioyce together. 37For in this is the saying true: That it is one man that soweth, and it is another that reapeth. For in this is the saying true: that it is one man that sovveth, and it is an other that reapeth. 38I have sent you to reap that in which you did not labour. Others have laboured: and you have entered into their labours. I haue sent you to reape that vvhich you laboured not: others haue laboured, and you haue entred into their labours. 39Now of that city many of the Samaritans believed in him, for the word of the woman giving testimony: He told me all things whatsoever I have done. And of that citie many beleeued in him of the Samaritans, for the vvord of the vvoman giuing testimonie, that he told me al things vvhatsoeuer I haue done.Ex civitate autem illa multi crediderunt in eum Samaritanorum, propter verbum mulieris testimonium perhibentis: Quia dixit mihi omnia quæcumque feci. 40So when the Samaritans were come to him, they desired that he would tarry there. And he abode there two days.Portatisi adunque da lui que' Samaritani, lo pregarono a trattenersi in quel luogo. E vi si trattenne due giorni.Therfore vvhen the Samaritans vvere come to him, they desired him that he vvould tarie there. And he taried there tvvo daies. 41And many more believed in him, because of his own word.E molti più credettero in lui in virtù della sua parola. And many moe beleeued for his ovvne vvord.Et multo plures crediderunt in eum propter sermonem ejus.

42And they said to the woman: We now believe, not for thy saying: for we ourselves have heard him and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.E dicevano alla donna: Noi già non crediamo a riflesso della tua parola: imperocché abbiamo noi stessi udito, e abbiam conosciuto, che questi è veramente il Salvatore del mondo. And they said to the vvoman, That novv not for thy saying doe vve beleeue: for our selues haue heard, and doe knovv that this is the Sauiour of the vvorld in deede. 43Now after two days, he departed thence and went into Galilee. And after the tvvo daies he departed thence: and vvent into Galilee. 44For Jesus himself gave testimony that a prophet hath no honour in his own country. For IESVS him self gaue testimonie that a Prophet hath not honour in his ovvne countrie. 45And when he was come into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things he had done at Jerusalem on the festival day: for they also went to the festival day. Therfore vvhen he vvas come into Galilee, the Galilaeans receiued him, vvhereas they had seen al things that he had done at Hierusalem in the festiual day: for them selues also came to the festiual day. 46He came again therefore into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain ruler, whose son was sick at Capharnaum. He came againe therfore into Cana of Galilee, Vvhere he made vvater vvine. And there vvas a certaine lord vvhose sonne vvas sicke at Capharnáum.Venit ergo iterum in Cana Galilææ, ubi fecit aquam vinum. Et erat quidam regulus, cujus filius infirmabatur Capharnaum. 47He having heard that Jesus was come from Judea into Galilee, went to him and prayed him to come down and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.E avendo questi sentito dire, che Gesù era venuto dalla Giudea nella Galilea, andò da lui, e lo pregava, che volesse andare a guarire il suo figliuolo, che era moribondo. He hauing heard that IESVS came from Ievvrie into Galilee, vvent to him, and desired him that he vvould come dovvne & heale his sonne. for he began to die.

48Jesus therefore said to him: Unless you see signs and wonders, you believe not.Dissegli adunque Gesù: Voi se non vedete miracoli, e prodigj, non credete.IESVS therfore said to him, Vnlesse you see signes and vvonders, you beleeue not. 49The ruler saith to him: Lord, come down before that my son die. The lord saith to him, Lord, come dovvne before that my sonne die.Dicit ad eum regulus: Domine, descende priusquam moriatur filius meus. 50Jesus saith to him: Go thy way. Thy son liveth. The man believed the word which Jesus said to him and went his way. The man beleeued the vvord that IESVS said to him, and vvent. 51And as he was going down, his servants met him: and they brought word, saying, that his son lived.E quando era già verso casa, gli corsero incontro i servi, e gli diedero nuova, come il suo figliuolo vivea. And as he vvas novv going dovvne, his seruants mette him: and they brought vvord, saying, That his sonne liued.Jam autem eo descendente, servi occurrerunt ei, et nuntiaverunt dicentes, quia filius ejus viveret. 52He asked therefore of them the hour wherein he grew better. And they said to him: Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left him. E quelli risposero: Ieri all'ora settima lasciollo la febbre. He asked therfore of them the houre, vvherein he vvas amended. And they said to him, That yesterday at the seuenth houre the feuer left him.Interrogabat ergo horam ab eis in qua melius habuerit. 53The father therefore knew that it was at the same hour that Jesus said to him: Thy son liveth. And himself believed, and his whole house. The father therfore knevv that it vvas in the same houre vvherein IESVS said to him, Thy sonne liueth. and him self beleeued and his vvhole house.Cognovit ergo pater, quia illa hora erat in qua dixit ei Jesus: Filius tuus vivit; et credidit ipse et domus ejus tota. 54This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judea into Galilee. This againe the second signe did IESVS, vvhen he vvas come from Ievvrie into Galilee.Hoc iterum secundum signum fecit Jesus, cum venisset a Judæa in Galilæam.
