1At that time Herod the Tetrarch heard the fame of Jesus. In quel tempo Erode il tetrarca senti parlare delle cose di Gesù:AT that time Herod the Tetrach heard the fame of IESVS:In illo tempore audivit Herodes tetrarcha fama Jesu: 2And he said to his servants: This is John the Baptist: he is risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works shew forth themselves in him.E disse a' suoi cortigiani: Questi è Giovanni il Batista: egli è risuscitato, e per questo opera in lui la virtù de' miracoli.and said to his seruants, This is Iohn the Baptist: he is risen from the dead, and therefore vertues vvorke in him.et ait pueris suis: Hic est Joannes Baptista: ipse surrexit a mortuis, et ideo virtutes operantur in eo. 3For Herod had apprehended John and bound him, and put him into prison, because of Herodias, his brother’s wife. For Herod apprehended Iohn and bound him, and put him into prison because of Herodias, his brothers' vvife. 4For John said to him: It is not lawful for thee to have her. For Iohn said vnto him, It is not lavvful for thee to haue her.Dicebat enim illi Joannes: Non licet tibi habere eam. 5And having a mind to put him to death, he feared the people: because they esteemed him as a prophet.E volendo (Erode) farlo morire, ebbe paura del popolo: perché lo tenevano per un profeta. And vvilling to put him to death, he feared the people: because they esteemed him as a Prophet.Et volens illum occidere, timuit populum: quia sicut prophetam eum habebant. 6But on Herod’s birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced before them: and pleased Herod. But on Herods birth-day, the daughter of Herodias daunced before them: and pleased Herod.Die autem natalis Herodis saltavit filia Herodiadis in medio, et placuit Herodi: 7Whereupon he promised with an oath, to give her whatsoever she would ask of him. Wherevpon he promised with an othe, to giue her vvharsoeuer she vvould aske of him.unde cum juramento pollicitus est ei dare quodcumque postulasset ab eo. 8But she being instructed before by her mother, said: Give me here in a dish the head of John the Baptist. But she being instructed before of her mother saith, Giue me here in a dish the head of Iohn the Baptist. At illa præmonita a matre sua: Da mihi, inquit, hic in disco caput Joannis Baptistæ.

9And the king was struck sad: yet because of his oath, and for them that sat with him at table, he commanded it to be given. And the king vvas stroken sad: yet because of his othe and for them that sate vvith him at table, he commaunded it to be giuen. 10And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.E mandò a decapitare Giovanni nella prigione. And he sent, and beheaded Iohn in the prison.Misitque et decollavit Joannem in carcere. 11And his head was brought in a dish: and it was given to the damsel, and she brought it to her mother.E fu portata in un bacile la di lui testa, e data alla fanciulla, e questa la presentò a sua madre. And his head vvas brought in a dish: and it vvas giuen to the damsel, and she brought it to her mother. 12And his disciples came and took the body, and buried it, and came and told Jesus.E andarono i discepoli di lui a prendere il suo corpo, e lo seppellirono: e si portarono a darne la nuova a Gesù.And his Disciples came and tooke the body, and buried it: and came and told IESVS.Et accedentes discipuli ejus, tulerunt corpus ejus, et sepelierunt illud: et venientes nuntiaverunt Jesu. 13Which when Jesus had heard, he retired from thence by a boat, into a desert place apart, and the multitudes having heard of it, followed him on foot out of the cities. Which vvhen IESVS had heard, he retired from thence by boate, into a desert place apart, and the multitudes hauing heard of it, folovved him on foote out of the cities. 14And he coming forth saw a great multitude, and had compassion on them, and healed their sick.E uscito (di barca) vide una gran turba, e si mosse a compassione di essa, e guarì i loro malati. And he coming forth savv a great multitude, and pitied them, and cured their diseased. 15And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying: This is a desert place, and the hour is now passed: send away the multitudes, that going into the towns, they may buy themselves victuals. And vvhen it vvas euening, his Disciples came vnto him, saying, It is a desert place, and the houre is novv past: dimisse the multitudes that going into the tovvnes, they may bye them selues victuals.

16But Jesus said to them, They have no need to go: give you them to eat. But IESVS said to them, They haue no neede to goe: giue ye them to eate.Jesus autem dixit eis: Non habent necesse ire: date illis vos manducare. 17They answered him: We have not here, but five loaves, and two fishes. They ansvvered him. We haue not here, but fiue loaues, and tvvo fishes. 18Who said to them: Bring them hither to me.Ed egli disse loro: Datemegli qua.Who said to them, Bring them hither to me.Qui ait eis: Afferte mihi illos huc. 19And when he had commanded the multitude to sit down upon the grass, he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes. And vvhen he had commaunded the multitude to sitte dovvne vpon the grasse, he tooke the fiue loaues and the tvvo fishes, and looking vp vnto heauen he blessed and brake, and gaue the loaues to his Disciples, and the Disciples to the multitudes. 20And they did all eat, and were filled. And they took up what remained, twelve full baskets of fragments.E tutti mangiarono, e si saziarono: e raccolsero dodici ceste piene di frammenti avanzati. And they did al eate, and had their fil. And they tooke the leauings, twelue ful baskettes of the fragments.Et manducaverunt omnes, et saturati sunt. Et tulerunt reliquias, duodecim cophinos fragmentorum plenos. 21And the number of them that did eat, was five thousand men, besides women and children. And the number of them that did eate vvas, fiue thousand men, beside vvomen and children. 22And forthwith Jesus obliged his disciples to go up into the boat, and to go before him over the water, till he dismissed the people.E immediatamente Gesù obbligò i suoi discepoli a montare in barca, e andare ad aspettarlo all'altra riva, nel mentre che egli licenziava le turbe. And forth vvith IESVS commaunded his Disciples to goe vp into the boate, and to goe before him ouer the vvater, til he dimissed the multitudes.Et statim compulit Jesus discipulos ascendere in naviculam, et præcedere eum trans fretum, donec dimitteret turbas.

23And having dismissed the multitude, he went into a mountain alone to pray. And when it was evening, he was there alone.E licenziate le turbe, sali egli solo sopra un monte per ivi fare orazione. E venuta la sera, era egli solo in quel luogo:And hauing dimissed the multitude, he ascended into a mountaine alone to praye. And vvhen it vvas euening, he vvas there alone.Et dimissa turba, ascendit in montem solus orare. Vespere autem facto solus erat ibi: 24But the boat in the midst of the sea was tossed with the waves: for the wind was contrary. But the boate in the middes of the sea vvas tossed vvith vvaues. for the vvinde vvas contratie.navicula autem in medio mari jactabatur fluctibus: erat enim contrarius ventus. 25And in the fourth watch of the night, he came to them walking upon the sea. And in the fourth vvatch of the night, he came vnto them vvalking vpon the sea. 26And they seeing him walking upon the sea, were troubled, saying: It is an apparition. And they cried out for fear.E i discepoli vedutolo camminare sopra del mare, si turbarono. Dicevano: Questo è una fantasima. E per la paura alzaron le grida. And seeing him vpon the sea vvalking, they vvere troubled saying, That it is a ghost. and for feare they cried out. 27And immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying: Be of good heart: it is I, fear ye not. And immediatly IESVS spake vnto them, saying, Haue confidence: it is I, feare ye not.Statimque Jesus locutus est eis, dicens: Habete fiduciam: ego sum, nolite timere. 28And Peter making answer, said: Lord, if it be thou, bid me come to thee upon the waters. And Peter making ansvver said, Lord if it be thou, bid me come to thee vpon the vvaters. 29And he said: Come. And Peter going down out of the boat walked upon the water to come to Jesus. And he said, Come. And Peter descending out of the boate, vvalked vpon the vvater to come to IESVS.At ipse ait: Veni.

30But seeing the wind strong, he was afraid: and when he began to sink, he cried out, saying: Lord, save me.Ma osservando, che il vento era gagliardo, s'impaurì: e principiando a sommergersi gridò, e disse: Signore, salvami. But seeing the vvinde rough, he vvas afraid: and vvhen he began to be drovvned, he cried out saying, Lord, saue me.Videns vero ventum validum, timuit: et cum cœpisset mergi, clamavit dicens: Domine, salvum me fac. 31And immediately Jesus stretching forth his hand took hold of him, and said to him: O thou of little faith, why didst thou doubt? And incontinent IESVS stretching forth his hand tooke hold of him, and said vnto him, O thou of litle faith, vvhy didst thou doubt?Et continuo Jesus extendens manum, apprehendit eum: et ait illi: Modicæ fidei, quare dubitasti ? 32And when they were come up into the boat, the wind ceased. And vvhen they vvere gone vp into the boate, the vvinde ceased.Et cum ascendissent in naviculam, cessavit ventus. 33And they that were in the boat came and adored him, saying: Indeed thou art the Son of God.Ma quelli, che erano nella barca, se gli appressarono, e l'adorarono, dicendo: Tu se' veramente figlio di Dio.And they that vvere in the boate, came and adored him, saying, In deede thou art the sonne of God.Qui autem in navicula erant, venerunt, et adoraverunt eum, dicentes: Vere Filius Dei es. 34And having passed the water, they came into the country of Genesar.E traghettato il lago, andarono nella terra di Genesar. And hauing passed the vvater, they came into the countrie of Genesar.Et cum transfretassent, venerunt in terram Genesar. 35And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent into all that country, and brought to him all that were diseased. And vvhen the men of that place vnderstoode of him, they sent into al that countrie, and brought vnto him al that vvere il at ease:Et cum cognovissent eum viri loci illius, miserunt in universam regionem illam, et obtulerunt ei omnes male habentes: 36And they besought him that they might touch but the hem of his garment. And as many as touched, were made whole.E gli domandarono in grazia, che questi toccassero solamente il lembo della sua veste. E tutti coloro, che la toccarono, furono risanati.and they besought him that they might touche but the hemme of his garment, and vvhosoeuer did touche, vvere made hole.et rogabant eum ut vel fimbriam vestimenti ejus tangerent. Et quicumque tetigerunt, salvi facti sunt.
