1And Jesus went unto mount Olivet.E Gesù se ne andò al monte Uliveto.AND IESVS vvent into the Mount-oliuet:Jesus autem perrexit in montem Oliveti: 2And early in the morning he came again into the temple: and all the people came to him. And sitting down he taught them.E di gran mattino tornò nuovamente al Tempio, e tutto il popolo andò da lui, e stando a sedere insegnava.and early in the morning againe he came into the temple, and the people came to him, and sitting he taught them.et diluculo iterum venit in templum, et omnis populus venit ad eum, et sedens docebat eos. 3And the scribes and Pharisees bring unto him a woman taken in adultery: and they set her in the midst,E gli Scribi, e i Farisei condusser a lui una donna colta in adulterio: e postala in mezzo,And the Scribes and Pharisees bring a vvoman taken in aduoutrie: and they did set her in the middes,Adducunt autem scribæ et pharisæi mulierem in adulterio deprehensam: et statuerunt eam in medio, 4And said to him: Master, this woman was even now taken in adultery.Gli dissero: Maestro, questa Donna or ora è stata colta, che commetteva adulterio.and said to him, Maister, this vvoman vvas euen novv taken in aduoutrie.et dixerunt ei: Magister, hæc mulier modo deprehensa est in adulterio. 5Now Moses in the law commanded us to stone such a one. But what sayest thou? And in the lavv Moyses commaunded vs to stone such. What saiest thou therfore? In lege autem Moyses mandavit nobis hujusmodi lapidare. Tu ergo quid dicis ? 6And this they said tempting him, that they might accuse him. But Jesus bowing himself down, wrote with his finger on the ground.E ciò essi dicevano per tentarlo, e per aver, onde accusarlo. And this they said tempting him: that they might accuse him. But IESVS bovving him self dovvne, vvith his finger vvrote in the earth. 7When therefore they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said to them: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. Vvhen they therfore continued asking him: he lifted vp him self, and said to them, He that is vvithout sinne of you, let him first throvv the stone at her.

8And again stooping down, he wrote on the ground.E di nuovo chinatosi, scriveva sopra la terra. And againe bovving him self, he vvrote in the earth.Et iterum se inclinans, scribebat in terra. 9But they hearing this, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, and the woman standing in the midst. And they hearing, vvent out one by one, beginning at the seniours: and IESVS alone remained, and the vvoman standing in the middes. 10Then Jesus lifting up himself, said to her: Woman, where are they that accused thee? Hath no man condemned thee?E Gesù alzatosi, le disse: Donna, dove sono coloro, che ti accusavano? Nissuno ti ha condannata? And IESVS lifting vp him self, said to her, Vvoman, vvhere are they that accused thee? hath no man condemned thee?Erigens autem se Jesus, dixit ei: Mulier, ubi sunt qui te accusabant ? nemo te condemnavit ? 11Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more. Vvho said, No man, Lord. And IESVS said, Neither vvil I condemne thee. Goe, and novv sinne no more. 12Again therefore, Jesus spoke to: them, saying: I am the light of the world. He that followeth me walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Againe therfore IESVS spake to them, saying, I am the light of the vvorld. he that folovveth me, vvalketh not in darkenesse: but shal haue the light of life. 13The Pharisees therefore said to him: Thou givest testimony of thyself. Thy testimony is not true. The Pharisees therfore said to him, Thou giuest testimonie of thy self: thy testimonie is not true. 14Jesus answered and said to them: Although I give testimony of myself, my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go: but you know not whence I come, or whither I go.Rispose Gesù, e disse loro: Quantunque io renda testimonianza di me medesimo, è idonea la mia testimonianza: perché so, donde io son venuto, e dove vado: ma voi non sapete, donde io venga, e dove io vada.IESVS ansvvered, and said to them, Although I doe giue testimonie of my self, my testimonie is true: because I knovv vvhence I came, & vvhither I goe: but you knovv not vvhēce I come, or whither I goe.

15You judge according to the flesh: I judge not any man.Voi giudicate secondo la carne: io non giudico nissuno:You iudge according to the flesh: I doe not iudge any man.Vos secundum carnem judicatis: ego non judico quemquam; 16And if I do judge, my judgment is true: because I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.E quand'anche io giudicassi, il mio giudizio è sicuro, perché io non son solo: ma io, ed il Padre, che mi ha mandato. And if I doe iudge, my iudgement is true: because I am not alone, but I and he that sent me, the Father.et si judico ego, judicium meum verum est, quia solus non sum: sed ego et qui misit me, Pater. 17And in your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true.E nella vostra legge sta scritto, che la testimonianza di due persone è idonea. And in your lavv it is vvritten, that the testimonie of tvvo men is true. 18I am one that give testimony of myself: and the Father that sent me giveth testimony of me.Sono io, che rendo testimonianza di me stesso: e testimonianza rende di me il Padre, che mi ha mandato.I am he that giue testimonie of my self: and he that sent me, the Father, giueth testimonie of me.Ego sum qui testimonium perhibeo de meipso, et testimonium perhibet de me qui misit me, Pater. 19They said therefore to him: Where is thy Father? Jesus answered: Neither me do you know, nor my Father. If you did know me, perhaps you would know my Father also.Gli disser però: Dov'è tuo Padre? Rispose Gesù: Non conoscete né me, né il Padre mio: se conosceste me, conoscereste anche il Padre mio. They said therfore to him, Vvhere is thy father? IESVS ansvvered, Neither me doe you knovv, nor my Father. If you did knovv me: perhaps you might knovv my Father also.Dicebant ergo ei: Ubi est Pater tuus ? Respondit Jesus: Neque me scitis, neque Patrem meum: si me sciretis, forsitan et Patrem meum sciretis. 20These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, teaching in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. These vvordes IESVS spake in the Treasurie, teaching in the temple: and no man apprehended him, because his houre vvas not yet come.Hæc verba locutus est Jesus in gazophylacio, docens in templo: et nemo apprehendit eum, quia necdum venerat hora ejus. 21Again therefore Jesus said to them: I go: and you shall seek me. And you shall die in your sin. Whither I go, you cannot come. Againe therfore IESVS said to them, I goe, and you shal seeke me, and shal die in your sinne. Vvhither I goe, you can not come.Dixit ergo iterum eis Jesus: Ego vado, et quæretis me, et in peccato vestro moriemini. Quo ego vado, vos non potestis venire.

22The Jews therefore said: Will he kill himself, because he said: Whither I go you cannot come? The Ievves therfore said, Vvhy, vvil he kil him self, because he saith, Vvhither I goe, you can not come?Dicebant ergo Judæi: Numquid interficiet semetipsum, quia dixit: Quo ego vado, vos non potestis venire ? 23And he said to them: You are from beneath: I am from above. You are of this world: I am not of this world. And he said to them, You are from beneath, I am from aboue, you are of this vvorld, I am not of this vvorld. 24Therefore I said to you that you shall die in your sins. For if you believe not that I am he, you shall die in your sin. Therfore I said to you that you shal die in your sinnes. for if you beleeue not that I am he, you shal die in your sinne. 25They said therefore to him: Who art thou? Jesus said to them: The beginning, who also speak unto you. They said therfore to him, Vvho art thou? IESVS said to them, The beginning vvho also speake to you. 26Many things I have to speak and to judge of you. But he that sent me, is true: and the things I have heard of him, these same I speak in the world. Many things I haue to speake and iudge of you, but he that sent me, is true: and vvhat I haue heard of him, these things I speake in the vvorld. 27And they understood not that he called God his Father. And they knevv not that he said to them that his father vvas God.Et non cognoverunt quia Patrem ejus dicebat Deum. 28Jesus therefore said to them: When you shall have lifted up, the Son of man, then shall you know that I am he and that I do nothing of myself. But as the Father hath taught me, these things I speak.Disse perciò loro Gesù: Quando avrete levato da terra il Figliuolo dell'uomo, allora conoscerete, ch'io son quell'io, e che nulla fo da me, ma parlo secondo quello, che il Padre mi ha insegnato:IESVS therfore said to them, Vvhen you shal haue exalted the sonne of man, then you shal knovv that I am he, and of my self I doe nothing, but as the Father hath taught me, these things I speake:Dixit ergo eis Jesus: Cum exaltaveris Filium hominis, tunc cognoscetis quia ego sum, et a meipso facio nihil, sed sicut docuit me Pater, hæc loquor:

29And he that sent me is with me: and he hath not left me alone. For I do always the things that please him.E colui, che mi ha mandato è con me, e non mi ha lasciato solo: perché io fo sempre quello, che è di suo piacimento.and he that sent me, is vvith me: and he hath not left me alone, because the things that please him I doe alvvaies.et qui me misit, mecum est, et non reliquit me solum: quia ego quæ placita sunt ei, facio semper. 30When he spoke these things, many believed in him. Vvhen he spake these things, many beleeued in him.Hæc illo loquente, multi crediderunt in eum. 31Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed.Disse adunque Gesù a que' Giudei, che aveano creduto in lui: Sarete veramente miei discepoli, se persevererete ne' miei insegnamenti:IESVS therfore said to them that beleeued him, the Ievves: If you abide in my vvorde, you shal be my disciples in deede.Dicebat ergo Jesus ad eos, qui crediderunt ei, Judæos: Si vos manseritis in sermone meo, vere discipuli mei eritis, 32And you shall know the truth: and the truth shall make you free.E conoscerete la verità, e la verità, vi farà liberi. And you shal knovv the truth, and the truth shal make you free.et cognoscetis veritatem, et veritas liberabit vos. 33They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham: and we have never been slaves to any man. How sayest thou: You shall be free? They ansvvered him, Vve are the seed of Abraham, and vve neuer serued any man: hovv saiest thou, You shal be free?Responderunt ei: Semen Abrahæ sumus, et nemini servivimus umquam: quomodo tu dicis: Liberi eritis ? 34Jesus answered them: Amen, amen, I say unto you that whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. I say to you; that euery one vvhich cōmitteth sinne, is the seruant of sinne.Respondit eis Jesus: Amen, amen dico vobis: quia omnis qui facit peccatum, servus est peccati. 35Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the son abideth for ever.Or il servo non istà per sempre, nella casa: il figliuolo sta per sempre nella casa.and the seruant abideth not in the house for euer: the sonne abideth for euer. 36If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. If therfore the sonne make you free, you shal be free in deede.Si ergo vos filius liberaverit, vere liberi eritis.

37I know that you are the children of Abraham: but you seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. I knovv that you are the children of Abraham: but you seeke to kil me, because my vvorde taketh not in you.Scio quia filii Abrahæ estis: sed quæritis me interficere, quia sermo meus non capit in vobis. 38I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do the things that you have seen with your father. I speake that vvhich I haue seen vvith my father: and you doe the things that you haue seen vvith your father.Ego quod vidi apud Patrem meum, loquor: et vos quæ vidistis apud patrem vestrum, facitis. 39They answered and said to him: Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them: If you be the children of Abraham, do the works of Abraham. They ansvvered, and said to him, Our father is Abraham. IESVS saith to them, If you be the children of Abraham, doe the vvorkes of Abraham. 40But now you seek to kill me, a man who have spoken the truth to you, which I have heard of God. This Abraham did not. But novv, you seeke to kil me, a man that haue spoken the truth to you, vvhich I haue heard of God. this did not Abraham.Nunc autem quæritis me interficere, hominem, qui veritatem vobis locutus sum, quam audivi a Deo: hoc Abraham non fecit. 41You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God.Voi fate quello, che fece il Padre, vostro. Gli risposer essi pertanto: Noi non siamo di razza di fornicatori: abbiamo un solo Padre, Dio.You doe the vvorkes of your father. They said therfore to him, Vve vvere not borne of fornication. vve haue one father, God.Vos facitis opera patris vestri. 42Jesus therefore said to them: If God were your Father, you would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded and came. For I came not of myself: but he sent me.Ma Gesù disse loro: Se Dio fosse il vostro Padre, certamente amereste, e me: imperocché da Dio sono uscito, e sono venuto: dappoiché non sono venuto da me stesso: ma egli mi ha mandato?IESVS therfore said to them, If God vvere your father: verely you vvould loue me. for from God I proceded, and came: for I came not of my self, but he sent me:Dixit ergo eis Jesus: Si Deus pater vester esset, diligeretis utique et me; ego enim ex Deo processi, et veni: neque enim a meipso veni, sed ille me misit.

43Why do you not know my speech? Because you cannot hear my word. Vvhy doe you not knovv my speach? Because you can not heare my vvord.Quare loquelam meam non cognoscitis ? Quia non potestis audire sermonem meum. 44You are of your father the devil: and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning: and he stood not in the truth, because truth is not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof. You are of your father the Diuel, and the desires of your father you vvil doe. he vvas a mankiller from the beginning, and he stoode not in the veritie: because veritie is not in him. vvhen he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his owne, because he is a lyer, and the father thereof. 45But if I say the truth, you believe me not.A me poi non credete, perché vi dico la verità.But because I say the veritie, you beleeue me not. 46Which of you shall convince me of sin? If I say the truth to you, why do you not believe me:Chi di voi mi convincerà di peccato? Vvhich of you shal argue me of sinne? If I say the veritie: vvhy doe you not beleeue me?Quis ex vobis arguet me de peccato ? si veritatem dico vobis, quare non creditis mihi ? 47He that is of God heareth the words of God. Therefore you hear them not, because you are not of God.Chi è da Dio, le parole di Dio ascolta. Voi per questo non le ascoltate, perché non siete da Dio.He that is of God, heareth the vvordes of God. Therfore you heare not, because you are not of God.Qui ex Deo est, verba Dei audit. 48The Jews therefore answered and said to him: Do not we say well that thou art a Samaritan and hast a devil? The Ievves therfore ansvvered, and said to him, Doe not we say vvel that thou art a Samaritane, and hast a diuil?

49Jesus answered: I have not a devil: but I honour my Father. And you have dishonoured me.Rispose Gesù: Io non sono indemoniato: ma onoro il Padre mio, e voi mi avete vituperato.IESVS ansvvered, I haue no deuil: but I doe honour my Father, and you haue dishonoured me.Respondit Jesus: Ego dæmonium non habeo: sed honorifico Patrem meum, et vos inhonorastis me. 50But I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.Ma io non mi prendo pensiero della mia gloria: v'ha chi cura ne prende, e faranne vendetta, but I seeke not mine ovvne glorie. there is that seeketh and iudgeth. 51Amen, amen, I say to you: If any man keep my word, he shall not see death for ever.In verità, in verità vi dico: chi custodirà i miei insegnamenti, non vedrà morte in eterno.Amen, amen I say to you, If any man keepe my vvord, he shal not see death for euer.Amen, amen dico vobis: si quis sermonem meum servaverit, mortem non videbit in æternum. 52The Jews therefore said: Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets: and thou sayest: If any man keep my word, he shall not taste death for ever. The Ievves therfore said, Novv vve haue knovven that thou hast a deuil. Abraham is dead, and the Prophets: and thou saiest, If any man keepe my vvord, he shal not tast death for euer. 53Art thou greater than our father Abraham who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Whom dost thou make thyself? Vvhy, art thou greater then our father Abraham, vvho is dead? and the Prophets are dead. Vvhom doest thou make thy self? Quem teipsum facis ? 54Jesus answered: If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom you say that he is your God.Rispose Gesù: Se io glorifico me stesso, la mia gloria è un niente: o il Padre mio quello, che mi glorifica, il quale voi dite, che è vostro Dio.IESVS ansvvered, If I doe glorifie my self, my glorie is nothing. it is my father that glorifieth me, vvhom you say that he is your God.Respondit Jesus: Si ego glorifico meipsum, gloria mea nihil est: est Pater meus, qui glorificat me, quem vos dicitis quia Deus vester est, 55And you have not known him: but I know him. And if I shall say that I know him not, I shall be like to you, a liar. But I do know him and do keep his word. And you haue not knovven him, but I knovv him. And if I shal say that I knovv him not: I shal be like to you, a lyer. But I doe knovv him, and doe keepe his vvord.et non cognovistis eum: ego autem novi eum.

56Abraham your father rejoiced that he might see my day: he saw it and was glad. Abraham your father reioyced that he might see my day: and he savv, and vvas glad. 57The Jews therefore said to him: Thou art not yet fifty years old. And hast thou seen Abraham? The Ievves therfore said to him, Thou hast not yet fiftie yeres, and hast thou seen Abraham?Dixerunt ergo Judæi ad eum: Quinquaginta annos nondum habes, et Abraham vidisti ? 58Jesus said to them: Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham was made, I AM.Disse loro Gesù: in verità, in verità vi dico: Prima che fosse fatto Abramo, io sono.IESVS said to them, Amen, amen I say to you, before that Abraham vvas made, I am.Dixit eis Jesus: Amen, amen dico vobis, antequam Abraham fieret, ego sum. 59They took up stones therefore to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple. They tooke stones therfore to cast at him. but IESVS hid him self, and vvent out of the temple.
